Li Wan's "Folk Ballads" Jiangsu People's Publishing House 48 yuan
The cover of the book reminds me of a book "Scarred Flowers Bloom" written by Hao Fang. This book classifies folk songs by region: British folk songs, Celtic folk songs, American folk songs, Canadian folk songs, Latin American folk songs, and Brazilian music. But at present, I can only translate American folk songs, and at most Canadian folk songs, because I don’t know that those musicians are from Canada, and I thought they were from the United States.
The range of folk songs here becomes wide, for example, in the American folk section, from the early Lead Belly, Sonny Terry, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, to the transitional period The Kingston Trio, Journey Man, to the 60s The urban folk songs of the era Phil Ochs, Simon & Garfunkel, Joan Baez, to the folk Bob Dylan, Joan Baez to the folk rock Bob Dylan, The Byrds, C.S N.Y to the psychedelic rock The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, to the songwriter Tim Buchley, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Suzanna Vega, Tori Amos in the 1980s, P. J. Harvey in the 1990s, Dido blue-collar rocker Bruce Springsteen are all introduced and commented on by the author here as the sphere of influence of folk music. For backward bands such as Nirvana, Crash, and Sonic Youth, the author also examined the folk elements in their music.
I can only see American folk songs now, and I hope to be interested in other parts in the future.
