Born on April 23, 1936 in Vernon, Texas. He sang as a country music singer in his early days. In 1956, under the guidance of Norman Peddie, who later became Buddy Holly's manager, he released the single "Ooby Dooby" and became famous and became a hit. After that, Roy explored a new musical path through ups and downs, and in the early 1960s, he won the top spot on the British singles chart and the second runner-up in the United States with "Only the Lonely".
