"The Swan" is the 13th piece from Saint-Sa?ns' orchestral "Carnival of the Animals". It was composed in 1886 and performed with two pianos and an orchestra. The subtitle of the music is "The Great Zoo Fantasia" .
This work was written specifically for the author's own amusement. Since it quotes some tunes from other composers, most of which have been altered in a way that is not well-intentioned and often has a satirical meaning, it should be treated as a composition. During his lifetime, except for a secret performance for his friends in Paris in February 1887, Saint-Sa?ns prohibited the performance or publication of this work during his lifetime, with the exception of "The Swan".
