Lang Lang was born in Shenhe District (formerly Dadong District), Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. Under the influence of family environment, Lang Lang became interested in music at an early age.
When Lang Lang was 3 years old, he formally studied piano with Professor Zhu Yafen from Shenyang Conservatory of Music. At the age of five, he participated in the piano competition for children in three northeastern provinces for the first time and won the first prize. After the competition, he held his first solo concert.
In p>1989, Lang Lang, who was only seven years old, participated in the first Shenyang Children's Piano Competition and won the first prize again. In 1991, Lang Lang stood out from the army of more than 3, applicants, and took the piano course attached to the Central Conservatory of Music with the first place, under the teacher Zhao Pingguo.

Lang Lang's grandfather used to be a music teacher in a normal school. His father Lang Guoren was a literary and art soldier and worked as a professional erhu actor in the army. After retiring, he joined the Shenyang Public Security Bureau. His mother Zhou Xiulan worked in the switchboard of Shenyang Institute of Automation, China Academy of Sciences, and was responsible for the maintenance, service and transfer of the whole computer room.
