The Conservatory of Music of Chongqing Normal University is a secondary college directly affiliated to Chongqing Normal University and is Chongqing’s “Aesthetic Education Reform Experimental School”. The college traces its origins to Chongqing Normal School, which was established in 1954. It began to recruit undergraduate students in 1978 and graduate students in 2003. In September 2021, the school will establish the Conservatory of Music of Chongqing Normal University. The college currently has more than 1,600 graduate and undergraduate students, and has a master's degree authorization point for the first-level discipline of musicology. It has four secondary disciplines of music education, music and dance, music theory, and music art practice. In 2017, the dance major of the college was approved as a major in Chongqing’s “Three Special Plan”. In 2018, the musicology major of the college was approved as a construction major in Chongqing’s “Three Special Plan”. In 2019, the music and dance discipline of the college was selected as a “first-class discipline” construction discipline in Chongqing. In 2020, the musicology major was approved as a national first-class undergraduate major construction site.
