Creative background
It is said that at that time, Weber proposed to producer McIntosh to adapt Leroux's original " When The Phantom of the Opera was adapted into a musical, Mackintosh was bathing in his bathtub. Weber used a large number of classical music backgrounds and put operas into musicals;
This form can realize his early dreams - such as "Rising Clouds" and "42nd Street", which use the backstage of the theater troupe as material of musicals.
Weber rewrote "The Ghost of the Opera" into a musical, and Maria designed the tall staircase of the Paris Opera House, the dreamy underground lake and all kinds of luxurious costumes.
In this musical, Weber uses surreal techniques and alienated sound processing, which is another attempt by him to break through traditional aesthetic standards after "Cats". The name of this musical master is enough to be engraved in the music history of the 20th century. Some of the famous songs in his musicals are as classic as the best classical music. The melodies are beautiful and elegant, but they are as widely accepted by the public as pop songs.
