Liu Beimao (1903- 198 1 year), alias Shou Ci, was born in Jiangyin, Jiangsu Province, and was a famous modern erhu player, composer and educator. The son of Liu Baoshan, a scholar in the late Qing Dynasty, was brothers with Liu Bannong, a poet, and Liu Tianhua, a musician.
Liu Beimao is a faithful successor and developer of the cause of Liu Tianhua. After Liu Tianhua's death, he inherited his brother's legacy of "improving China's music" and successively created more than 0/00 erhu performance tracks such as Hanjiang Tide, Little Flower Drum and Liu Fang Qu. He is a prolific composer in the history of modern music in China, and is known as "the master of national music".
Liu Beimao is one of the founders of Liu Tianhua Erhu School, the most direct and outstanding inheritor and developer. From the untimely death of Liu Tianhua in 1932 to the 1960s, Liu Beimao made great contributions to the teaching, performance and creation of erhu, which played a role in connecting the past with the future and filling the historical gap.
Liu Beimao should have an indispensable glorious chapter in the history of modern music in China. He is the "Van Gogh" of China's music industry. The value of his artistic achievements is far from being recognized by us. As time goes on, his research work will be more and more in-depth, and his talent will become more and more obvious.
Some scholars vividly say that Liu Beimao's works are like a newly opened Dunhuang art treasure house, and the dazzling music wealth needs people to know and appreciate. Mr. Liu Beimao said before his death: "Music and musicians first serve people who don't engage in music." This is the most precious portrayal of civilian music thought and humanistic spirit throughout Mr. Bei Mao's life, and he is a well-deserved generation of national music masters.
