Jilin Art College is an art college, and the school is a pure art college. One of the 29 independent colleges in China and one of the six major art colleges in China. Representative universities with high comprehensive artistic level in Northeast China, provincial key undergraduate colleges (the first batch), have national key majors and provincial key majors.

Jilin University of Arts is a comprehensive art college, and it is also a social art level examination institution. The college was formerly known as the Music Department of Lu Xun College of Literature and Art of Northeastern University 1946, and Jilin Art College was established in 1958. Since then, the college has merged five schools, including Jilin Culture Cadre School, Jilin Art School, Music and Dance School affiliated to Jilin Song and Dance Theatre, Jilin Art School and Changchun Film Academy affiliated to changchun film studio. 1978 was upgraded to an undergraduate college, and 1993 became a master's degree awarding unit.
