In his decades of Pipa performance and teaching career, Professor Ye has made great achievements. As early as the 1950s, he boldly and pioneeringly used multi-part techniques in pipa performance, which brought the pipa, an ancient musical instrument, into a new realm in terms of expression techniques and caused a stir in the folk music circles across the country. The "Dunhuang Music Score" and "Tang Five-string Pipa Score" premiered by him have attracted great attention from the media at home and abroad, and have made a lot of reports.
Over the years, Ye Xuran has composed many pipa pieces, among which "Flower Party" has become a commonly used piece in pipa solo concerts and a designated piece for national pipa competitions and exams. He has also given many special lectures on domestic and foreign radio and television stations, and published papers in music publications. The "Collection of Pipa Grade Examination Songs" edited by him has been published by the Music Publishing House. He has also recorded several personal albums, laser discs, etc. Professor Ye is famous all over the world and teaches many students. He has won many awards in pipa competitions. He also serves as the executive director of the National Pipa Research Association, deputy director of education, editorial board member of the journal, and vice president of the Shanghai Pipa Society. He is included in the "Dictionary of Chinese Contemporary Literary and Artistic Celebrities".
