Why is there no pop music major in China? Or similar works analyzing popular music works?

China is also a large country with a large population. Now our music market is underdeveloped and will accept a lot of foreign music input. As living standards improve, the demand for music will definitely become greater and greater, musical works will definitely become more abundant, and the demand for foreign music will also become higher and higher. China must also follow its own path of production and sales, because there are too many people in China, and it is difficult for music creators to have the motivation to promote abroad. But on that day we no longer need to measure our own musical prowess by European and American standards.

Also, some thoughts on traditional music. Many people have stereotypes about our traditional music, such as pentatonic tones and national musical instruments. But in fact, Chinese traditional music is rich in melodies, music and instruments. But now there are many problems. Theoretical research is not in-depth enough. The development of music theory in ancient China was very limited.

In modern times, many theories have been summarized, such as elegant music, Yanle pentatonic/seventonic scale, Tonggong system, etc. But research isn't enough. Today's Chinese styles, especially pop music, may match the Western pentatonic scale. I hope more people will summarize the general laws of traditional music theory, and I hope more people will apply these theories when creating works instead of simply using pentatonic harmonies to harmonize sounds.

Traditional uniqueness and characteristic things should be protected and promoted, such as opera, singing, etc. These are things that are not found in Western music. At the same time, we must not forget the musical study of these things. Traditional musical instruments should be improved, and methods for increasing the range, volume, and playing skills of the instrument without changing the timbre should be studied, as well as methods for scientific, quantitative, and precise manufacturing of traditional musical instruments.
