Growth experience

"Juanjuan has been an introverted child since she was a child. She doesn't talk much, can endure hardships, and has a natural tenacity in her bones that refuses to admit defeat."

< p>Juanjuan rarely goes home since she joined the Qingdao Archery Team. She can only communicate by writing letters and making phone calls. She is very busy and hard at training. A girl who grew up in a rural area has a rare simplicity. In the past few years, she has never bought cosmetics. She has saved money and sent it home to send her younger brother to school. She is quite mature and sensible at a young age.

When Juanjuan was 14 years old, she didn’t know what archery was about, but fate knocked on the door. Juanjuan first learned discus, shot put and javelin. She looks and has the same frame as her father, with broad shoulders and a strong body, like a boy.

My daughter has “been very strong since she was a child.” By the fifth grade of elementary school, Juanjuan had grown to 1.64 meters tall and was admitted to Laixi Sports School. The coach chose to throw the discus. After a short time, the coach said again: "Go and practice something easy." At that time, there was no archery in Laixi Sports School. Zhang Juanjuan was spotted by coach Gao Xiuying and began to practice shooting, which laid a good foundation for future archery practice. . Later, she met Qu Yuefeng, coach of the Qingdao archery team. Qu Yuefeng asked her if she wanted to practice archery? "What is archery?" She didn't know what archery was at that time. "Just practice!" Until the end, she trained with archery coach Wang Guozhang. Therefore, Juanjuan sometimes said: "I didn't choose archery, archery chose me."

In fact, archery is not a popular sport in our country, but it has its magic. , that is, many people will become "addicted" once they practice, and the more they practice, the more they can't live without it. Juanjuan became obsessed with archery and couldn't stop it. Archery has also become Juanjuan’s lifelong dream and passion.

The day Juanjuan started training was one day in July 1995. On the first day of archery practice, she was so curious that she didn't even see the shadow of the bow. All she did all day was to pose for archery. The next day, there was still no bow. The coach gave them a leather strap to practice strength. Later, one leather strip was replaced by two, and a few days later it became three. Every day they just stand with their legs apart and then pimp them out. From time to time there was a crisp "pop" sound, which was the coach bending down to swat mosquitoes from their legs. Some players didn't like to practice, so the coach took a bow and gave it to those obedient players to try. A bow costs more than 10,000 yuan, which was very valuable among sports teams at that time. In this way, the coach gives small punishments to those disobedient players.

With a cherished mood, Juanjuan also tried it, but she couldn't pull it away, and her heart, which was a little impetuous at first, calmed down again. I practice bow-drawing every day. I draw the bow more than 300 times a day. I have to stop when I draw the bow. It’s okay at first, but as the times increase, my arms shake when I stop the bow. I really can’t hold on anymore and want to pull back. , you will hear the coach’s roar of “pull back”. At this time, Juanjuan's tears were welling up in her eyes.

Sometimes she called home and said she was too tired and had been discouraged. Her parents told her, "What else can we do as a farm girl if we can't bear this little hardship?" "It's like pushing a cart up a hill. You can only go in but not retreat". From then on, she never backed down. Once, she even called her parents and said, "Mom and Dad, I'm sensible. Just wait for my good news!"

It is inevitable that there will be setbacks in life. . Soon after joining the provincial team, Zhang Juanjuan suffered from the "yellow heart disease" unique to archery athletes. As soon as she aimed at the yellow heart (rings 9 and 10) of the target, her bow would shake. Many archery athletes "die" because they cannot pass the "yellow heart disease" test. But Juanjuan was a good girl. Under Wang Guozhang's patient guidance, she persevered and worked hard for more than two years to get rid of this "yellow heart disease."

In June 1996, one year after learning archery, Zhang Juanjuan participated in the Shandong Province "Hope Cup" archery competition and won the championship. There were 10 awards in that competition, including individual distance awards and all-around awards, and she won 8 of them. At the award ceremony, awards were given out one after another, and she received one after another. Sometimes, before she even walked back, her name came out again on the radio. In the end, 8 medals hung heavily around my neck.

The living room of Zhang Juanjuan’s house is filled with trophies and medals, which make the smiling Zhang Juanjuan in the photo album even more beautiful.

The World Archery Championships held in Beijing in September 2001 was the first time Juanjuan participated in a world high-level competition, and it was also the first time Juanjuan participated in a competition as a national team member. Joining her in the competition are He Ying, who won the women's individual silver medal at the Atlanta Olympics, and Yang Jianping, who participated in the Sydney Olympics. You know, when He Ying won the Olympic silver medal in 1996, Juanjuan had only participated in the provincial "Hope Cup" competition. Juanjuan said that there are many excellent things worth learning from the big sisters. And this time participating in the World Championships, more masters from South Korea, Italy, Russia, etc. are her opponents and teachers.

In the women's individual competition, only Juanjuan of the Chinese team ranked among the top eight. The "mission" of the team at that time was to win a medal at the World Championships, and they had great hopes for her. However, in the knockout round to compete for the top four, when Juanjuan's third arrow was shot, the tail of the arrow suddenly fell off unexpectedly, and she lost her The balanced arrow flew diagonally toward the target, hitting only three rings. This "far arrow" caused Juanjuan to miss the opportunity and rank eighth. Facing the defeat, Juanjuan said that this should be an inspiration to her. She believed that as long as she trained more seriously and harder, she could be as good as them.

Juanjuan is a girl who does what she says, just as she asks herself to do everything well. During the team knockout competition, many insiders, including teammates and coaches, were worried about Juanjuan - after the unexpected loss in the individual competition, she was under too much pressure. Can she do it? But Juanjuan seemed to have put aside the events of the previous two days and focused on playing the game. Although her performance was not the best compared to He Ying and Yang Jianping, she gave her best effort. Zhang Juanjuan and her teammates won the team championship, but she was not satisfied. She knows that for Chinese archery, a world championship is important, but it is not enough. China needs Olympic medals for archery.
