The predecessor of Shenyang Conservatory of Music can be traced back to Luxun Art College. Luxun Art College was founded by Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai in Yan 'an on April 1938, and it is the first higher art college founded by China. 1949 was renamed Northeast Lu Xun Art Institute.
1953 established the northeast conservatory of music on the basis of the music department of the northeast Luxun College of Literature and Art, and 1958 changed its name to Shenyang Conservatory of Music. As of September, 20 14, the college has four teaching campuses: the headquarters, Changqing campus (Art College), Taoxian campus (Dance College) and Dalian campus (Dalian Branch), and offers 12 undergraduate majors.
