Wuhan Conservatory of Music is an institution of higher learning with complete disciplines and outstanding school-running characteristics in Central and South China. She is located in the most prosperous Jiefang Road in Wuchang, east of the Red Building of the Memorial Hall of the First Righteousness of 1911, west of the Yangtze River, and north of the Yellow Crane Tower and the Yangtze River Bridge. The courtyard is shaded by trees, the lake is breezy and full of music.
The college has a long history, and the school site is the former site of Wuchang Lianghu Academy. Her predecessor can be traced back to Wuchang Art College founded by 1920. 1949, the College of Literature and Art of Chung Yuan Christian University was established; 195 1 changed its name to central south conservatory of music; 1958 was renamed Hubei Art Institute. 1985 was named Wuhan Conservatory of Music.
College 1956 enrolls undergraduates, 1979 enrolls postgraduates, and 1999 formally enrolls students through two master's programs of Marxist theory of law and ideological and political education.
There were 7 master's degree awarding points before the adjustment of the college's discipline and specialty catalogue. After the publication of the new discipline and specialty catalogue, it will be adjusted to two master's degree awarding points accordingly.
The college currently has 447 on-the-job faculty members. Among them, 274 are teachers. Among the teachers, there are 22 full-time professors and 9 1 associate professors, totaling 1 13.
The college has seven departments, including composition, musicology, national instrumental music, piano, orchestral music, vocal music and dance, as well as teaching and research units such as graduate department, Social Science Department, Adult Education College, Affiliated Middle School, Affiliated Primary School, Music Research Institute and Computer Music Experiment Center. In June 2003, it was designated as one of the bases of humanities and social sciences in Hubei Province.
There are 2863 students in the college, including graduate students 148, undergraduate and junior college students 1604, 577 affiliated middle schools, affiliated primary schools 12 1 3 and adult education junior college students/4 13.
The college has good teaching and research conditions. After decades of efforts, especially the rapid development in the first two years of the Ninth Five-Year Plan and the Tenth Five-Year Plan, the fixed assets have increased substantially. The campus covers an area of 183.2 mu, with a school building area of 92,000 square meters. The asset value of teaching instruments and equipment1more than 100,000 yuan. The library has more than 230 thousand books and more than 50 thousand records, tapes and videos. The college has audio-visual education center, computer music experiment center, music acoustics laboratory and digital recording studio. There is also a chime concert hall in the college, with 100 chimes at the beginning, and the sound effect is first-class.
The quality of education and the efficiency of running a school are improving day by day. Undergraduate students learn from 1956 and graduate students learn from 1979. So far, a large number of musical and artistic talents have been trained for the country. Many graduated undergraduates and masters have become professors and associate professors in music art colleges, first-class or second-class artists in literary and art groups, and the backbone of music research institutions and news media.
In the process of discipline construction, the college has always focused on a window (Journal of Huang Zhong, with its serious ideological, profound theoretical and high-grade academic taste, continues to be listed as one of the eight core journals of Chinese music in China, and as the academic window of Wuhan Conservatory of Music, it has become one of the source journals of the comprehensive evaluation database of Chinese academic journals. It is included in China Journal Network, the full text of China academic journals (CD-ROM version), two fists (Oriental Symphony Orchestra and China Zhongming Orchestra), three directions (computer music theory, composition technology theory and national music theory), four key disciplines (composition, folk music, musicology and piano) and six centers (computer music experiment center and Xu Zhong piano). China Taoist Music Research and Training Center and Music Acoustics Laboratory have made remarkable progress in terms of quality, characteristics, brand creation and benefits.
Based on the theoretical research of basic music curriculum, the provincial key musicology discipline of the college pays attention to the marriage of music and technology, and the combination of tradition and modernity, so that multiple research directions support each other and develop harmoniously; Strive to realize the transformation of scientific research achievements into teaching, promote the healthy development of discipline construction, and make this discipline in a leading position not only in Hubei Province, but also in similar disciplines in China.
The college has undertaken and completed a number of national and provincial key scientific research projects, such as compiling some items of China Folk Songs Integration Hubei Volume and China Encyclopedia Music and Dance Volume; Music recordings of some works of Complete Works of Nie Er and Complete Works of Xi Xinghai, 32 tapes of National Music Appreciation Library for Primary and Middle School Students, and 2 volumes of Music Library Appreciation Guide, etc. At present, our college has published monographs 12 and more than 40 papers in influential academic journals at home and abroad, including the automatic generation and conversion of multimedia sound, image and spectrum, the development of computer-aided teaching software for the course of composition technology theory, the academic database of composition technology theory, and the research direction of national music culture and religious music. In a letter, Federmai, Dean of the School of Music of the University of Vienna, clearly stated that these achievements are a new dawn in the study of ancient music in China, and in the final analysis, they have a great influence on the study of world music history. The research results of Taoist music in our college have exerted a wide influence not only in mainland China, but also in Hong Kong, Japan and France.
Relying on its own academic strength, the college has also hosted two academic conferences on chime research in Wuhan, two national academic reports on harmony and acoustics, two national exchanges on young and middle-aged composers' new works, and national academic conferences on solfeggio, trombone, horn and clarinet in colleges and universities of music and art. College teachers often attend various academic conferences at home and abroad, and the papers submitted and published are highly concerned by the participating experts.
The College has extensively carried out academic exchange activities at home and abroad, and established inter-school exchange relations with conservatories of music and art in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Britain, France, Germany, Austria, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries, with constant exchanges, lectures and performances. Every year, the college sends some teachers and students abroad to study, visit lectures and hold competitions.
The College attaches great importance to the artistic practice of teachers and students, and has successively established Oriental Symphony Orchestra, China Chime Orchestra, National Chamber Orchestra, Choir, Art Troupe Attached to the Middle School and Art Troupe Attached to the Primary School. Among them, China Chime Orchestra has performed in the United States, Britain, France, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai in cooperation with internationally renowned musicians Tan Dun and Yo-Yo Ma. The Oriental Symphony Orchestra has performed in Beijing, Shanghai, Anhui, Hunan and Dalian. In 2002, it also hosted the China Spring Festival Concert jointly organized by the Hubei Provincial People's Government and CCTV, which was successfully performed in the Century Concert Hall in Frankfurt, Germany and the Golden Hall in Vienna, Austria, showing China's ancient civilization and traditional culture, China's composer's achievements in the field of symphonic music creation, and China's outstanding young singers and performers, and was well received by people from all walks of life.
