Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Music Stage is a famous scenic spot in Nanjing’s cultural landscape.
Nanjing Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Scenic Area Music Stage is located in the southeast of Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Square. Covering an area of ??about 4,200 square meters, it was designed by Yang Tingbao. Construction started in the autumn of 1932 and was completed in August 1933. The music stage is a supporting project of the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and is mainly used for music performances and rally speeches in commemoration of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.
The entire music stage is a reinforced concrete structure. The layout of the site is semicircular, with an arc-shaped music stage set up at the center of the semicircle, and steps on both sides of the music stage connected to the flower shed. Behind the music stage is a large screen wall that collects sound waves. It is the main design of the music stage. The screen wall faces south and faces north. It is about 16.67 meters wide and 11.33 meters high. Its horizontal section is arc-shaped. It can accommodate 3,000 spectators. There is a cement corridor surrounding the lawn, which is a good place for visitors to rest and enjoy the cool air.
There is a pool directly in front of the music arena, which is in the shape of a half-moon and has a radius of 12.67 meters. It is used to collect natural water in the open space. The water in the pool does not dry up all year round, which can enhance the sound effect of the music arena. There are platforms on both wings of the music arena, with reinforced concrete flower sheds built on top.
The architecture of the bandstand is an example of the combination of traditional Chinese style and Western classical architectural style. The music stage fully absorbs the characteristics of ancient Greek architectural art in making use of the natural environment, as well as the plane layout and facade shape; while in the detailed processing of buildings such as the screen wall and the music stage, it adopts the expression techniques of the classical garden architectural art of Jiangnan in China. This creates an artistic style that has both an open and grand spatial effect and exquisite carvings, achieving the perfect harmonious unity of nature and architecture.
