What music mosquito repellent?
Actually, it's not music

As we know, there are many kinds of such software, all of which claim to use the principle of high-frequency ultrasound to repel mosquitoes. The reporter found on the Internet that "mosquito repellent software" mainly includes "super mosquito repellent", "green mosquito repellent incense", "electronic mosquito repellent incense" and "electronic mosquito repellent KM3". These softwares can be roughly divided into two categories. One is the "acoustic" weapon in mosquito repellent software, represented by "electronic mosquito repellent incense", which is said to drive mosquitoes by high-frequency sound waves. According to reports, its control interface is very simple, with only three options: frequency response time, two kinds of spectrum selection and automatic operation, and the frequency range of sound waves that can be emitted is between 5 Hz and 3, Hz.

Another software claims that it is based on the principles of bionics and acoustics, and achieves the purpose of repelling mosquitoes by imitating the same-frequency sounds of natural enemies of mosquitoes, such as dragonflies and bats. Because the blood-sucking mosquitoes are pregnant females, the software has specially added the imitation of the courtship sound of male mosquitoes, which makes female mosquitoes have to avoid "harassment". Represented by "electronic mosquito repellent KM3" and "Super Mosquito Overlord". It is said that the software can have an effect on a variety of mosquitoes. It is also mentioned in the software description that high-frequency sound waves are not electromagnetic waves, so they have no influence on the human body, and their frequency is higher than the hearing range of human ears, so they are inaudible and will not affect people's normal work.

The reporter downloaded a software called "Super Mosquito Bug" from the Internet, trying to find out. After the installation, a big "mosquito" appeared on the desktop. When running, only the sound similar to footsteps was heard, and some dizziness and tinnitus were felt. The reporter then downloaded an "electronic mosquito-repellent incense" software. After installation, it made a messy sound and felt uncomfortable.

Is it really effective to use this "mosquito repellent software" to drive away mosquitoes? Experts from the Department of Otolaryngology, Beijing Friendship Hospital said that people can only hear the sound with the frequency of 2 Hz-2, Hz, and people who exceed this range can't hear it at all, and the so-called "ultrasonic wave" is the sound wave above 2, Hz. But ordinary computer speakers can't emit ultrasonic waves above 2 Hz. It is obviously a bit exaggerated to use ultrasonic to repel mosquitoes. And even if the computer speaker can emit sound waves with a frequency of more than 2, Hz, simulating the sound waves of male mosquitoes and dragonflies, the speaker usually radiates in one direction, and the power is relatively small. The range and intensity of sound wave propagation in the air are limited, and whether it can achieve the effect of mosquito repellent remains to be further observed.

An insect expert from the Institute of Biological Diseases, Academy of Military Medical Sciences of the Chinese People's Liberation Army told the reporter that in theory, it is feasible to simulate mosquitoes to emit high-frequency sound waves to repel mosquitoes. But so far, there is no practice to prove that this method can achieve the effect of mosquito repellent or mosquito control. Mosquitoes have a certain perception of ultrasonic waves, but due to the complexity of mosquito communication, there are not many examples of sound waves that have an effect on mosquitoes. Male mosquitoes will send out multiple signals of sound, smell or behavior to attract the opposite sex when courting, and this communication method varies greatly according to different mosquito species. The tools for mosquito repellent relying solely on sound signals have been tested before, but the real effect is very few, far less obvious than that of chemicals. Experts also said that it is impossible to judge whether this kind of software is effective without scientific experiments.
