Dobby is a house elf. He is short, with bat-like ears, a slender nose and prominent green eyes as big as tennis balls. He used to be a servant of Malfoy's family, and he had nothing to wear except an old pillowcase. He didn't put on clothes that fit him until he was free. Dobby is still a little masochistic, but this is stipulated by the slave status of the house elf.

Many years ago, Dobby was only a servant of the Malfoy family. He was often threatened, humiliated and scolded by his master (this is common for house elves). Most domestic elves take this as a matter of course and don't want to change their living conditions. Unlike Dobby, he didn't like his master. When he heard what plot they were planning, he rushed to help Harry Potter.

In the Chamber of Secrets, Dobby broke the rules of the house elves for thousands of years, so he had to punish himself. Because of his knowledge of the terrain of Hogwarts, he can only reluctantly cooperate with Kreacher (whom Harry inherited from Sirius) to follow Malfoy and monitor whether he has any suspicious behavior. Neither Dobby nor Kreacher likes this arrangement. Dobby hates Kreacher very much, but for the sake of Harry Potter, he has to abandon his resentment and cooperate with Kreacher. They provided Harry with a lot of important information and inspired him how to "catch" Draco. Dobby is as loyal to Harry as ever. He has shown time and time again that he is a good friend and ally. Dobby appeared in several later works and became Harry's best house elf friend.

In the last Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Dobby was stabbed to death in the chest by Bellatrix's silver dagger in a fight to save Harry and others, but he still took Harry to safety before he died. (See Chapter 23 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows)

Before Dobby died, they went to Bill's new home in apparate. Harry asked Dobby if he had reached his destination, but Dobby didn't respond. When Harry looked at Dobby, he was already dying, and the silver dagger was inserted into his chest (Bella's dagger). Before he died, he said, "Harry Potter". Although he had already left, Dobby still tried his best to take Harry and them to their destination. How great he was! He is a hero!

After his death, Harry Potter personally dug up the ground and buried it near Furong's shell hut, and wrote an inscription-
