Sharing about hard-tipped calligraphy practice

First published in a calligraphy training camp

Zhihu’s great talent Cai Tong once answered the question “What knowledge do you have that you would like to recommend to young people?” , talking about doing things with big returns and a long half-life, that is, doing things with a lot of gains and a long-lasting impact on the future. The counter-example he gave was playing games, which does not bring much profit, and the pleasure comes and goes quickly. The positive example he gave was calligraphy practice.

Everyone comes here with the same purpose and gathers together. Every day there are hundreds of messages and hundreds of assignments sent and commented on. Some students have good foundation and awareness, and the words they write are very similar to the example words and are restored very well; some students seem to be disengaged from the course and are very different from the example words; some students have a very serious attitude and have invested time, But the progress is not obvious.

Looking at the 100 days that have passed by twenty, looking at the continuation of this state, and looking at the hard work and hard work of the class committee, I feel it is necessary to share some of the problems I have discovered and what I have noticed. Methods of practicing calligraphy.

I am not the best writer in the group, but I am the most frequently shared person, so I would like to stand up and say a few points. First, I hope that some students can improve their calligraphy practice efficiency and efficiency. The similarity with the example words, and the second is to inspire others. I look forward to other people's wonderful sharing in the future.

Today’s sharing will focus on two major points:

Among them, the “methods of practicing calligraphy” have several small points

The benefits of practicing calligraphy are undoubted, but There are so many things that are good for you, so why do you give up all the options but only focus on practicing calligraphy?

Here, ask yourself two questions:

1. Why do you come here to practice calligraphy?

2. Training camp is not cheap and requires a lot of time. After spending so much money, are you determined to match it?

My answer is: practicing calligraphy well is a wish that I have buried for several years. It started from the Chinese teacher's words: "Chinese is the second face of a person" and is reinforced every time I sign with others. contrast.

Poor handwriting is a thorn in my heart. It doesn’t bleed, but it pierces deeply. Although it is not shown to others, it is always there. Every time I see my own name and someone else's signature, the nerve that was stabbed there trembles. Over the years, the trembling sounds can be connected to form a song. I just missed an opportunity to take action.

In 2018, I came into contact with the WeChat training camp and felt that it was more useful than studying alone (I had the experience of enrolling in small classes offline to practice calligraphy but giving up halfway). I found that I was the kind of person who was used to being trained by exam-oriented education and needed to study in a group. Only those who can learn well. Through training camps elsewhere, I learned about Teacher Abu’s 100-day camp, so I came here with the determination to make wine.

Former national football coach Milu said that attitude determines everything. I said, determination determines attitude.

Finding and clarifying the internal driving force for practicing calligraphy well is one of the prerequisites for practicing calligraphy well.

Here you should continue to ask yourself, what is the purpose of coming here? How determined are you?

After watching Teacher Abu’s writing video, I understood why I could never write that character when I tried to practice it on the copybooks.

I don’t know how many students still remember the 8-point formula taught by Teacher Abu when the camp started: parallel, balance, average; speed, strength, angle, radian, and length.

In the video, there are also these key points: pen lightly, tilt upward, pause, don’t use too much force, hook up, hook in, and look at the structure of the character. . If you are not deeply impressed by these words and are not sensitive to them, it means you have not watched the video often enough and you are not focused enough.

There are also some gestures and movements that can only be understood by watching the video carefully, but cannot be expressed clearly and accurately in words.

These are all key points and tips. If you don’t listen, you won’t use these points in the words you write. Then what you write is not the font of Mr. Abu’s school, what you write is still your own font.

In most cases, if you can't write well, you just don't watch the video carefully, you don't watch the video repeatedly, or you don't write according to the priorities and gestures in the video.

It is too difficult for the class committee members to comment on using such fonts. This is not asking them to find differences with the example words to help you improve, but asking them to find similarities to comfort you. . Although it may be a bit hurtful to say this, it is true that the class committee is too friendly to everyone, so friendly that the person involved may not realize this, so it is necessary to stand up as a bad person and mention it.

Our calligraphy practice is a process of forgetting past writing habits and re-mastering a writing method.

The more you forget your original writing habits and the less you retain, the more likely you are to write better, even if the awkward words you write at the beginning are not as good as the original words.

This is like the magical skills in some novels. Only by abolishing the original skills can you learn this superior new skill. The old will not go, and the new will not come. Only with an empty cup mentality can we tolerate more new things, new methods, and new ideas. Changing habits is difficult. You need to use your current self to fight against the familiar self in the past. This takes time and requires meditation.

Practice calligraphy, write quickly, reveal the original shape, and write characters from the past.

Writing must be slow, especially regular script.

How slow? At least not faster than Teacher Abu.

I want to complete a word in two fonts and a maximum of 18 words in 10 minutes to check in. I have personally experienced that I can’t write well.

Everyone’s foundation is different, and how long it takes to write a word in regular script or running script is also different.

At my level, it would take at least an hour to finish writing this page of gold-framed copybook. Here, I am not advocating that the longer it takes, the better, but that you should write in a state of being unhurried and not rushing.

If you want to meditate, the first condition is to have time. A state of being in a hurry is not a state of being able to write well.

Writing requires meditation. Get up as early as possible to write. This may be the quietest time of the day besides sleeping.

I once woke up 1.5 hours early, took a nap for half an hour, netted 1 hour, and maintained energetic state for several days, and the effect was very good. Later, I went to bed late because of something and it didn't continue, but I would continue to try when I went to bed early.

When your mind is not calm, you can adjust it by meditating for 5-10 minutes. Paired with some meditation voice guidance and meditation music, the effect will be better.

Before I practiced calligraphy here, I always wrote at the same speed, rhythm, and intensity.

After watching Mr. Abu’s demonstration, I learned that there is rhythm in hard-pen calligraphy. I originally thought that this was a patent exclusive to brush calligraphy.

The speed and intensity in the above eight points can be understood as rhythm. Watching the teacher write, the different strokes of a word have different speed and intensity, and the reflected result is the change in thickness. If the speed of each stroke is the same when writing, and there is no change in rhythm, the character will look dull, especially in running script.

Have you ever carefully observed the strokes of each character, or the strokes during stroke practice? It is difficult to imitate them when writing casually?

There is a small incision when inserting the pen. This is because the angle of the paper and pen begins to change slightly when the paper and pen are lightly in contact.

These contents are all in the video, so you need to watch them more and carefully. Writing is not just about writing and writing directly.

The function of the golden grid is not only to indicate the left and right center of gravity of the word "you", but also to indicate the starting point, angle, length, arc and end point of each stroke. In a word, it tells you whether the position of the stroke is correct. How is it different from the example? Among them, starting to write is particularly critical. If you start the pen in the wrong position, half of the character will be ruined.

The example words in the copybook are different from those in the video. I personally feel that the words in the video are better and can imitate the writing in the video. But this comes down to personal preference.

A copybook allows you to write a word in regular script and running script 44 times, and then use the last 9 words to hand in your homework. Take a look at your copybook to see if you are getting better and better as you write, even if it is just a certain part.

Every time you finish writing a word, stop and take a look, compare it with the video, and check yourself. When writing the second word, correct the mistakes found in the previous word. The more you find and correct, the more you iterate on yourself and you will write better.

To a certain extent, it is a game where everyone finds fault, or it means that you become the school committee.

The role of class committee comments is to remind oneself of problems that cannot be discovered or solved during iteration. Those simple and obvious problems should be solved by oneself.

It can be understood this way: every day the class committee will give you an opportunity to help you find faults. You must cherish this opportunity. It must be used in words that you cannot find obvious faults to be meaningful enough.

In addition, when you have time, you can also see how the squad leader and school committee evaluate other people, so that you can learn from others and accelerate your growth.

That’s all the sharing content is above.

Thank you!
