It can be interpreted as the story of Romeo and Juliet, but it is called Zhiming and Chunjiao in Taiwan
The origin of "Zhiming and Chunjiao":
"I and You'd better stop here, you have no feelings for me anymore..." I believe everyone is very familiar with this song. They have sung it with Mayday at concerts, sung it with friends at KTV, and listened to CDs at home. Sing, then, what is the story that happened in this song?
Every time Ah Xin is in a bad mood, he always likes to ride alone to the Tamsui River and walk along the path with many seafood shops next to it. When he is tired, he will Sit down by the riverbank. One day, Ashin was sitting on the river embankment as usual, listening to the sound of bubbles bursting when the river water slapped the cement. When he began to listen carefully, he heard music, which was the natural sound level of flowing water. Wonderful and beautiful.
In June 1998, one day while riding the bus, Ashin suddenly remembered Tamsui and the music he heard in Tamsui. So in this short 10-minute drive, "Chi Ming and The lyrics and music of "Chunjiao" were born, and Tamsui naturally appeared in the lyrics. The melody of this song is actually not like ordinary Taiwanese songs, but when writing the lyrics, it was natural to fill in the Taiwanese lyrics, and it goes very smoothly, so this song has everyone from the beginning to the end. Nothing has changed from the version heard on the album.
Who is Chunjiao? Who is Zhiming? In fact, Chunjiao and Zhiming are you, me, and every man and woman around us. In English, they are Peter and Mary. They are such ordinary names, but every ordinary person actually has his own extraordinary story, like The story narrated by this song may have happened to you and me.
After hearing this song, the other members of Mayday began to arrange the song. In the early days, they tried some different styles, such as using two acoustic guitars to take a fresh approach, and also tried the bassanova style. But the final arrangement was unanimously approved by everyone because it felt right.
Mayday recorded the song "Zhiming and Chunjiao" on CD for the first time in order to submit it to record companies. At that time, Mayday recorded a self-recorded double CD called "Black and White Talk", which included more than 10 demos of her works, including the song "Zhiming and Chunjiao". This CD only produced more than 10 demos. Most of the covers were sent to record companies, and a few were given to friends. Although they were made by themselves, Mayday still spent time designing exquisite covers, one black and one white. Their music, and probably the beautiful cover, immediately attracted the attention of record companies. "Zhi Ming and Chun Jiao" on the "Black and White Talk" CD has already had the prototype of the album version, and there have been some changes since then, but the "Black and White Talk" CD version and the later demo version have not changed much.
On July 17, 1998, Mayday performed a performance at @LIVE. This was Mayday’s first formal performance. Also because of this concert, Mayday’s concert included Shanghua, Sony, and Moyan. Companies began to pay great attention to this group. After chatting with many record companies, Mayday decided to sign a contract with Rolling Stone Records.
After signing with the Rolling Stones, in May 1999, before going to Canada to record, Mayday recorded a demo tape for the record company to choose songs, which included 13 songs including "Zhiming and Chunjiao" song. Next is the officially released version that everyone often hears and is included in the album.
After this song was selected as the title song, Mayday began filming the music video of "Zhiming and Chunjiao". Regarding the music video of this song, the thing that impressed Mayday most deeply was "tired". The music video was filmed for two days. The first day was in the studio and the second day was on location. The first day was filmed until one o'clock in the morning. Everyone decided to go back to the training room to take off their makeup and rest. When everyone finished taking off their makeup and were ready to rest. , only to see the make-up artist appear at the gate. Because they had to start putting on make-up at three o'clock in the morning to prepare for the next day's filming, this music video was completed when everyone was close to coma.
The place where you can best feel Mayday’s music is live. Whether it is a first listening session, a first concert, or a concert, we can all hear the live version of "Zhiming and Chunjiao". In the live performance at Taipei Municipal Stadium on August 28, 1999, we also heard the unreleased bassanova version of "Zhiming and Chunjiao".
