Remains of Guan Shadow Play
Guan's shadow play is based on the integration of the singing of the northeast old shadow play and Tangshan shadow play, and the dialect-based Daobai forms its own singing characteristics. Its shadow outline is rough and simple, but elegant, with a narrow figure and arms wider than knees; Born, Danyang carved an empty face, Tian Tong nose, red lips pointed up, eyebrows and phoenix eyes; If the finger reaches over and grabs it, it is abstract and concise; The coloring is mainly red and green, and sometimes some blue and purple are used, which are brightly colored. In the performance practice, the screen and lighting are also constantly reformed. Musically, it changed the traditional habit of only four-string accompaniment, and joined the dulcimer, Qin Yue, flute and sheng Guan to play together. In the performance, "big chin" is often used to perform humorous sketches, and other art forms such as Allegro are also integrated into the shadow play performance. Their specialty is "Four Smelly Boys".
Guan Baofeng paid more attention to shadow paper (songbook), not only participated in the adaptation and creation, but also specially invited some private school teachers and scholars to help write new songbooks. In the past, the shadow play team in charge only sang a dozen old plays, and they could perform 70 or 80 at once. Later, because Guan Baofeng's eldest son Guan and his second son Guan Chengxi studied with their father since childhood, they belonged to Guan's "Xianxian" generation, and Guan Baofeng finally renamed the shadow troupe "Xianxian Music Class". According to the archives of the cultural department of Shenyang County, the "Le Cheng Class" at that time was often active in northern Shenyang, Fushun, Tieling and other areas, and performed more than 20 films such as Fengyi Pavilion, Woodcut Zhai, Xue Gang's Anti-Tang Dynasty and Wusong Tiger Fighting.
