The predecessor of the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival is the Shanghai Spring Music and Dance Month founded in the 1960s and the Shanghai International Radio Music Festival started in the 1980s. These two events were launched in 2001 Officially merged into Shanghai Spring International Music Festival. It is held once a year and is located in Shanghai. The Shanghai Spring International Music Festival aims at "peace, friendship, integration and harmony" and selects participating programs and has a "Golden Chime Award". On the evening of April 28, 2012, the 29th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival grandly opened at the Shanghai Grand Theater.
