How was the World Cup born?
As a single sports event, the World Cup is the largest sports event in the world. The origins of the World Cup began with the Olympic Games in the early 20th century, especially the 1920 Olympic Games held in Antwerp. At that Olympic Games, 14 countries from South America, Asia and Africa participated in the Olympic football event. In 1928, 17 countries participated in the Amsterdam Olympic Games, but until then, the World Cup had not yet been formed.
Until May 26, 1920, FIFA decided to organize football matches on its own, and the World Cup was born. At the 1926 FIFA General Meeting, President Rimet approved the proposal to "hold the first FIFA World Cup in which all national teams of FIFA member football associations can participate."
They chose to compete in the middle years of the Olympic Games and decided to host the World Cup every four years. After France hosted the third (1938) competition, due to the outbreak of World War II, the World Cup There was a hiatus of 12 years. As soon as the war ended, Brazil hosted its fourth World Cup in 1950.
