What are the characteristics of Hui music?

Hui folk songs are greatly influenced by Islamic chanting tunes. Some works have a strong Islamic style in mode, melody and rhythm. Hui Hua'er mainly uses three modal tone sequences, namely [2·5·6·125], [5612·3·5·] and [5·6·1245]. There are also unique features of this nation in the melodies, such as the continuous four-degree upward jump of the two tones of Shang and Zheng, the circuitous descent of the pentatonic scale, the decline when the tonic tone of the mode ends, etc. This gives the Hui flowers a high-pitched and rough character, but also a long and lingering charm.
