How is Wushu classified in China?
Wushu of our Chinese nation has a long history, rich content, profound theory and numerous schools. Only 129 kinds of boxing with orderly origin, distinctive boxing theory, unique style and self-contained system have been recognized. In the past, Wushu was divided into different schools, and there were many ways to classify it, such as Shaolin School, Wutang School, Emei School, South School, North School and so on. Some are divided by surnames, or by the practice characteristics and styles of boxing.

Now, according to the research of Wushu experts, they are divided into five categories according to their technical characteristics:

The first category is boxing, including Changquan, Nanquan, Tai Ji Chuan, Xingyiquan, Tongarm Boxing, Fan Boxing, Lie Boxing, Guagua Boxing, Mantis Boxing, Octupole Boxing, Monkey Boxing, Drunk Boxing, Flower Boxing, Eagle Claw Boxing, Mianquan, Liuhe Boxing, Snake Boxing, Italian Boxing, Shaolin Boxing, Tea Boxing and Cannon Boxing.

The second category is instruments. There are four kinds of instruments, such as knives, swords, daggers and Emei thorns. There are guns, sticks, broadswords, knives and other long instruments; There are double knives, double swords, double hooks, double-headed guns, double halberds and other double instruments; There are also nine-section whip, sharp stick, three-section stick, meteor hammer, rope dart and other soft instruments. Most of these musical instruments evolved from ancient weapons.

The third category is sparring, and the first category is unarmed sparring, including boxing and catching the ball. Followed by equipment training, such as splitting knife, stabbing sword, stabbing gun, beating stick, single knife into gun, double knife into gun, flapping knife into gun, three-section stick into gun and so on. The third is unarmed equipment training, such as grasping guns, grasping daggers, and breaking double guns with bare hands.

The fourth category is collective events, which refer to the collective drills of various kinds of boxing or equipment with more than 6 people, which can be accompanied by music, such as collective basic skills, collective Tai Ji Chuan, and collective nine-knot whip.

The fifth category is the offensive and defensive events, which refers to various fighting sports carried out by two people according to certain rules, such as Sanshou, Taiji Pushing Hands, Short Soldiers and Long Soldiers. This highly antagonistic project has certain practical significance.
