What is Shangyin?

Shangyin is the Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

Shanghai Conservatory of Music, referred to as "Shangyin", is a full-time higher professional music college organized by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and jointly established by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. , the first batch of national “double first-class” world-class discipline construction universities, selected into the national high-level university construction postgraduate program. The predecessor of the college is the "National Conservatory of Music" co-founded by the democratic revolutionist, educator, and thinker Mr. Cai Yuanpei and the music educator Dr. Xiao Youmei on November 27, 1927. It is China's first independent national higher music institution. The first president was Mr. Cai Yuanpei. In September 1929, it was renamed the National Music College. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the school was named "East China Branch of the Central Conservatory of Music" and was renamed Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1956.

As of October 2015, the college covers an area of ??66,738 square meters. The college has 15 departments, covering 7 majors and nearly 20 professional directions, with 1,662 students and 291 full-time teachers, including 54 professors and 90 associate professors.
