What are the world heritage sites?

World heritage refers to the rare and currently irreplaceable wealth of mankind recognized by UNESCO and the World Heritage Committee. It is a cultural relic, monument and natural landscape of outstanding significance and universal value recognized by all mankind. World heritage in the narrow sense includes four categories: "World Cultural Heritage", "World Natural Heritage", "World Cultural and Natural Heritage" and "Cultural Landscape". In a broad sense, according to form and nature, world heritage is divided into cultural heritage, natural heritage, cultural and natural dual heritage, memory heritage, human oral and intangible heritage (referred to as intangible cultural heritage), and cultural landscape heritage.

According to the latest statistics, there are currently 704 world cultural heritage sites (including cultural landscape heritage), 180 world natural heritage sites, and 27 dual cultural and natural heritage sites around the world.

China's World Heritage List

As of August 1, 2010, China has 40 world heritage sites. Among them, there are 26 world cultural heritages, 8 world natural heritages, 4 cultural and natural mixed heritages, and 2 cultural landscapes.
