Contents of funeral songs: ① Crying about the grief of losing loved ones and deeply cherishing the memory of the deceased; (2) Praise the fighting spirit and entrepreneurial spirit of the deceased to educate the younger generation; ③ Telling historical stories and knowledge of secular life; (4) Convenors sing in groups to remember their aspirations of harmony and unity. The tunes of funeral songs can be roughly divided into the following categories: ① funeral songs. Most of these songs are based on the tone of weeping, and some of them are actually musicalization of this tone. The rhythm is free, there is no certain structural pattern, and a euphemistic downward cry is continuously carried out. For example, the funeral songs of the Daur people, the Maoer of the Yi people in Chuxiong, Yunnan, and the funeral songs of the Dai people in various places and ethnic groups called "sad tunes", "crying" and "crying for relatives". (2) Folk songs, minor and dance music. For example, the singing method of "mourning drums" in Hubei is mostly folk songs, among which Jiayu's ring-around-the-city cover includes three plates: "flat cavity", "high cavity" and "sad cavity", which belong to folk chorus. Mourning songs in Daoxian County, Hunan Province, such as Lu Qiang and Scattered Flowers by Xiangyin, are all in minor style. In addition, some funeral songs need to be accompanied by sacrificial dances. For example, Tujia and Miao people in Xiangxi, Yi people in Guizhou, Jingpo people in Yunnan, Mocuocuo of Hani people, Wore of Naxi people and Zhiganshou of Qiang people. (3) Poetry. Most of them are sung by priests. A set of "filial piety songs" in Jinhu, Daye, Hubei Province, and "funeral songs" of Confucianism in Xiangyin, Hunan Province. Belong to this category. The other part is to sing poems about historical stories, and their musical characteristics are similar to the rap style. The villagers believe that it is a normal phenomenon to die of old age: life in the world is like duckweed in water, and a thousand years are like lightning in the air, spring flowers and autumn moon. Soon, people's popularity will be hard to stay. Since ancient times, there have been ups and downs, there must be death, life without death, impermanence to the end of the world. Advise the deceased not to go back to their hometown and advise their children not to be sad. Perhaps it is based on this understanding that the death of the elderly is a natural phenomenon and an irresistible natural law. Therefore, death is not sad, but it is regarded as a happy event. It is to drive to Yaochi and return to the mountain for a hundred years. In Shennongjia Mountain Township, whenever there is a funeral for relatives and friends, singers will be invited to play drums to compete for songs, and relatives and friends will come to sacrifice and play drums all night to "accompany the spirits" and "go to the funeral". This is not so much a mourning for the dead as a welcome to them.
