What is grunge?

Grunge rock was born to protest against the increasingly pale and hollow soul of rock music behind its increasingly gorgeous appearance. Rock artists such as Beck and the Garbage Band are drawing on various musical elements and characteristics. On the basis of it, it developed into a musical form and revived rock music.

Grunge rock is mostly influenced by heavy metal and punk, emphasizing the sense of power brought by rhythm and harmony. In terms of content, it strives to express the pessimistic and disappointing emotions of young people under social oppression.

The style of grunge music can be roughly summarized as "dirty" guitars, intense riffs and heavy drums. The musicians "dirty" the sound through their own interpretations of standard punk playing styles and extensive use of guitar distortion and feedback effects. Unlike punk, grunge music has a slower tempo but an asymmetrical harmony. In terms of lyrics, it presents a typical state of extreme anxiety. Most of the works express anger, frustration, boredom, sadness, fear and depression.
