The Central Conservatory of Music campus is located at No. 43 Baojia Street, Xicheng District, Beijing. The university campus is divided into east and west campuses, covering an area of ??54,446.54 square meters. The east area of ??the campus is adjacent to the main campus and covers an area of ??6735.3 square meters. The building area of ??the teaching area is 87,485.33 square meters, of which 68,855.51 square meters are for teaching and administrative buildings.

The Central Conservatory of Music was named and established in 1949 by the Government Affairs Council of the Central People's Government. It is composed of the Music Department of Yan'an Lu Xun Art College established in 1938, the Chongqing National Conservatory of Music established in 1940, and the three departments of North China University established in 1948. It was formed through the merger of several music education institutions, including the Music Department and the Music Department of the National Peking Art College established in 1918. It is an institution of higher learning that cultivates high-level professional music talents.

The college has the Ministry of Education of Social Music and the National and International Social Music Examination Committee, as well as the Central Conservatory of Music Press and Universal Audio and Video Publishing House. In 2005, the Band Academy, the first institution in Asia to cultivate and train band performance talents, was founded. There are also social music grading committees at home and abroad, and the "National Music Grade Examination" is jointly launched with the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education.
