Since the music department was founded in 1956, the first head of the department was Professor Zhang Hongdao (1956-1984); The second dean was Professor Lan Yusong (1984-1987); The third dean was Professor Huang Xiao and Professor (1987-199); The fourth dean was Professor Zhong Zilin (199-1993); The fifth (1994- 1997), the sixth dean was Professor Yuan Jingfang (1997-21), and the seventh dean was Professor Zhang Boyu (22-present).

There are 26 professors in the department, including 15 doctoral supervisors; 1 associate professors, including 6 tutors for master students; 1 lecturer.
