Nanjing University is the first modern university in China that integrates teaching and research. Its learning vein can be traced back to Nanjing Imperial College in the first year of Sun Wu Yong 'an (258). The modern school history began in Sanjiang Normal School organized in 192 and has undergone many changes. In 192, the "women's ban" was first opened in China's national institutions of higher learning, leading the trend of coeducation. The earliest modern academic research was carried out in China, and the earliest modern scientific research laboratory was established in China. It became the earliest modern university in China with the characteristics of university autonomy, academic freedom, arts and sciences, specialized application subjects such as agriculture, industry and commerce, and integration of teaching and research. The establishment of Xueheng monthly magazine makes Nanjing University become the center of academic and cultural exchanges between China and the West, and is known as "the center of oriental education". In 1949, it was renamed "National Nanjing University" by the National Central University, the highest institution of higher learning in China during the Republic of China, and it was called "Nanjing University" the following year, which has been in use ever since.
