The founders of the school were Pfennik, Harry Breed, Buhalski, and the famous aristocratic patron at the time, Dondugov, the governor of South-Western Province. Finally in 1894 a new school with professional standards at that time was established. In 1883, a Russian music professional institution was established, with Buharsky as its principal. The number of students has increased to more than 200. Later, famous music composers such as Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky worked here. In 1913, it was expanded based on the music school and renamed the Kiev Conservatory of Music. In 1956, at the request of the Supreme Council of Ukraine, the academy was named after the famous composer Griela.
