Bach's works are too many and there are no scientific figures, so later generations have sorted out the BWV number through rigorous textual research, which is Bach Werke Verzeichnis.
BWV 1~77 1: Organ Works
BWV 772~990: Keyboard Works
BWV 99 1~ 1xxx Orchestral and Instrumental Works
"BWV" (German abbreviation for Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis, meaning "Bach's works catalogue")
The most authoritative numbering of Bach's works adopts BWV system. BWV is the first three letters of German Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis. The Chinese translation is Bach's Catalogue, which was compiled and published by Schmiedel Wolfgang of Leipzig Conservatory of Music in Germany on 1950. Schmidt Wolfgang 190 1 was born in Bloomberg, and 1973 died in Leipzig. He studied musicology and library science at the University of Heidelberg and Leipzig respectively, and served as the director of the Music Department of Frankfurt National Library at 1942. He systematically studied the manuscripts and related documents of Bach's works and provided the basic numbering method of Bach's works, which is the most standard numbering method of Bach's works in the world.
