DG Gallery Series: Robert Schumann, author of "Piano Concerto & Cello Concerto", Robert Schumann (1810-1856) was a famous German composer and music critic in the first half of the 19th century. The most prominent figure in the history of German music. Schumann was born in a bookseller's family in Zwickau, Germany. He loved music and literature since he was a child.
Due to family prejudice, Schumann studied law at university when he was young and could only study music part-time. Due to his tireless pursuit, he became the leading pianist in the local area. The strengths and weaknesses of German romanticism are profoundly reflected in Schumann's artistic creation. Schumann's "Piano Concerto in A minor" is Schumann's only piano concerto, which was devoted to Schumann's fiery heart and high enthusiasm.
It is one of the "five major piano concertos in the world". The work was completed in 1845. In 1841, Schumann tried to change the traditional way of writing piano concertos and composed a single-movement piano concerto called "Fantasia in A Minor for Piano Lead," but the manuscript was rejected by the publisher. Later Schumann had to compose two new movements.
