The National Music School in the 19th Century

The European National Music School that emerged in the second half of the 19th century is an important part of the European musical Romanticism movement. Development injects new blood and vitality.

During the classical period of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, European music had no obvious national characteristics but was pan-European. In the 19th century, the national consciousness of romantic musicians gradually increased, folk music became increasingly popular, and exotic music also aroused people's interest.

Before the 19th century, Russia, Bohemia, countries in Scandinavia and the United States, although some of them had rich folk music resources, did not have their own art music traditions. They performed only Italian and German music. The political national democratic liberation movements in these countries particularly inspired the spirit of cultural nationalism and promoted the rise of national music schools. The National Music School emphasizes reflecting the national spiritual content in music, and expresses national characteristics through folk songs, folk dances, and folk rhythms.

It was gradually formed on the basis of Baroque music. A European music creation style community centered in Vienna.
