Beijing Symphony Orchestra orchestra profile

The Beijing Symphony Orchestra is one of China's famous symphony orchestras. It was established in October 1977. Mr. Tan Lihua, my country's famous conductor, is currently the orchestra's music director and chief conductor. Mr. Li Delun and Mr. Huang Feili, the older generation conductors who have long served as artistic directors of the orchestra, have made great contributions to the development of the orchestra. The Beijing Symphony Orchestra has a large number of musicians with profound artistic attainments, some of whom have won awards in various competitions at home and abroad. In its long-term and continuous performance activities, the orchestra has relied on its profound musical accomplishment, rigorous skills, rich and extensive repertoire, becoming one of the most popular large-scale music groups in our country.

The Beijing Symphony Orchestra plays a wide range of repertoire, involving works by famous composers from various historical periods and countries. The orchestra has premiered nearly a hundred important works by world-famous composers in China. What is particularly eye-catching is that since 2007, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra and EMI Records, a world-famous record brand with a century-old history, have released six albums recorded by the orchestra around the world. The tracks include: Bartok's "Concerto for Orchestra", Bao Yuankai's "Peking Opera" Symphony, Tang Jianping's percussion concerto "Holy Fire-2008", Guo Wenjing's percussion concerto "The Rite of the Mountain", Mussorgsky-Ravel's "Pictures at an Exhibition", Stravins Key's "Firebird" Suite and Rachmaninoff's Third Symphony, etc. This is the first time EMI has collaborated with a Chinese conductor and symphony orchestra to record a record, which is of epoch-making significance.

In August 2010, conductor Tan Lihua conducted the Beijing Symphony Orchestra to hold "Temple Snow Mountain - Dedicated to the Greatest Mountain in the East" at Mount Yuzhu in the Kunlun Pass at an altitude of 4,300 meters in Golmud City, Qinghai Province. ——Kunlun Mountain Symphony Concert". At the concert, Guo Wenjing’s symphonic chorus “Temple-like Snow Mountain” newly created for this concert and the fourth movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Ode to Joy, were performed. With a distinctive theme and a close-to-nature form, the concert conveyed the positive attitude and optimism held by the Chinese government to create a harmonious world, ecological civilization, and a peaceful and happy human living environment. At the same time, the concert also set the Guinness World Record for "the highest symphony concert at altitude".

The Beijing Symphony Orchestra regards developing and promoting the symphony of national music as its own responsibility. The orchestra arranges several special concerts of Chinese symphony works every year during the music season, and commissions composers to create works in different styles. He has created symphony works from different regions and continuously launched various concerts that combine opera and symphony. He has pioneered a path of grafting opera and symphony in China and has made outstanding contributions to the development of my country's national symphony career.
