Asian music in Southeast Asia

Southeast Asian music was first influenced by Chinese and Indian culture, and later some countries were influenced by Islam and the culture of the Later Zhou Dynasty. The classical music of Thailand and Indonesia uses the heptatonic scale. Large percussion bands are one of the characteristics of Southeast Asian music. Gamelan is the oldest, most distinctive and most influential Indonesian music in the world. Gamelan music mostly uses two types of pentatonic scales, with and without semitones. However, its temperament (that is, the distance between notes) is different from the 12-equal temperament, and is a bit closer to the 5-equal temperament. It is not very accustomed to it when you first listen to it. . When playing gamelan, you also need to follow a mode called patet, which is similar to the Indian raga. Different patets are used to express different emotions. There are also a small number of singers in the gamelan band.
