The cicada that can sing is the male cicada.
The male cicada has a vocal organ on its abdomen that can continuously make sharp sounds. Female cicadas do not make sounds but have vocal organs on their abdomen.
Cicada is a type of creature in the phylum Arthropoda, the class Insecta, the order Hemiptera, and the family Cicadae. About 3,000 species are currently known. What gives us the illusion that cicadas have short lives is their unique life cycle. The life of a cicada goes through three stages: fertilized egg, larva, and adult. In summer, the fertilized eggs laid earlier will hatch into larvae, which will burrow into the soil and feed on the sap of plant roots. When the larva matures, it climbs to the ground, takes off its golden exoskeleton, and emerges into the common adult insect with wings. Although adult cicadas only live for a few months, the larval stage can survive in the soil for many years. For example, the larval stage of a 6-year-old cicada takes up 5 years of its life.
