The origin of this mantra

What the Buddhas said: The Great Compassion Mantra is It has been passed down for a very long time and was spoken by the Buddhas on the sands of the 9.9 billion Ganges River in the past.

Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva preached: Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva heard the Great Compassion Mantra for the first time at the Thousand Lights King's Tathagata's Presence before immeasurable calamities. And I was ordered to use this mantra to bring great benefit and joy to all sentient beings in the evil world in the future. At that time, Guanshiyin Bodhisattva was in the first level, and upon hearing this mantra, he transcended the eighth level. The Bodhisattva who is filled with the joy of Dharma makes a vow to be born with a thousand hands and a thousand eyes for the benefit of all sentient beings. After making the vow, he will immediately have a thousand hands and a thousand eyes. The earth in the ten directions was shaken by it, and all the Buddhas in the ten directions shone light. Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva later heard this mantra again at the Wuliang Buddha Assembly and personally upheld it. Even after countless millions of kalpas of life and death, I still recite it and never forget it. Because I uphold this mantra, I always appear in front of the Buddha as a lotus.
