Gu Long’s original name was Xiong Yaohua. He was originally from Jiangxi. He was born in Hong Kong in 1936 (some say he was born in Mainland China in 1937). He died of illness in Taiwan on September 21, 1985.
Gu Long is called the "new school". His martial arts novels are not the "formal" style of Xia Lin. His life experience, just like his novels, has gone through too many twists and turns and hardships. When he was 14 years old, he moved to Taiwan from Hong Kong with his parents to study. However, just four years later, his parents divorced, and he became an eldest child with no one to care about him, and his main job was often unavailable. Relying on financial support from friends and part-time work-study, I completed my studies in the Department of Foreign Languages ??and Literatures of Tamkang University (then called Tamkang English College). He served in the U.S. Army Advisory Group in Taipei, and later wrote novels full-time under the name Gu Long, earning a living from the royalties. He made a lot of money, but he was known for his poor financial management. He made some investments, but they all yielded no results. He spent too much money, was naked when he came, and looked poor when he left.
People say that cologne is a cologne created by fine wine and beautiful people.
Cologne is famous for his drinking. In the early days, he lived in Ruifang Town, a suburb of Taipei. Every time he received royalties, he would buy a few bottles of good wine and a stack of new books, and return to the countryside to live the life of a hermit. After becoming famous, his wine cabinet was full of fine wines, and he tried his best to collect wines that were not available on the market. When he drank, his bowl would be empty whenever he raised his head, and he was enjoying himself. Once, five people drank 28 bottles of brandy. He was always drinking and enjoying himself. The only time he didn't drink was when he sat on the ground and used the blackboard as a table to write. Although he didn't drink alcohol, he held a cigarette in his left hand that he never smoked. He could smoke two packs of "555" in one night. Gu Long's thoughts surged due to wine, and he created the wine-loving heroes Chu Liuxiang, Lu Xiaofeng, Li Xunhuan, and Shen Lang, which brought him to the pinnacle of the art of martial arts novels. At the same time, he consumed himself with alcohol. He was sent to the hospital because of alcohol. Leave the hospital, drink again, and then go to the hospital. Then he suffered cirrhosis of the liver, enlarged spleen, and stomach bleeding due to alcohol poisoning, which led to Gu Long's untimely death. One time, a friend invited him to Yinsongge Restaurant. The food and wine were on the table, but Gu Long felt that it was pointless to share the wine. His friend felt that his refusal had hurt his face, so they had a disagreement and started an argument. The other party drew a knife and stabbed Gu Long. Xia was stabbed in the arm and lost 2,000cc of blood. Doctors said it was probably hopeless. Although he survived the disaster, the ancient hero who stood up again became increasingly depressed and lost his standard. He no longer had the heroic spirit of the 1960s and 1970s. After 1980, the level of his works only declined and no new peaks emerged. Cologne died of alcohol, sadness and endless drinking. The direct cause of death was massive bleeding from the esophageal tumor caused by liver cirrhosis. At the funeral, friends brought 48 bottles of XO, his favorite drink during his lifetime, to symbolize his 48 years old. For Cologne, it’s really the wine that succeeds and the wine that fails.
