It is said that Minnan dialect originated in the Yellow River and Luoshui Valley, moved to southern Fujian in the Western Jin, Tang and Northern Song Dynasties, and originated in Quanzhou, Fujian.
At present, they are mainly distributed in southern Fujian and Taiwan Province Province, northeastern Fujian, southeastern Zhejiang, Chaoshan area in Guangdong (Shanwei, Jieyang, Shantou and Chaozhou), western Guangdong (Zhanjiang, Maoming and Yangjiang), Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (Zhongshan and Hong Kong), Hainan Island and most Chinese-inhabited areas in Southeast Asia. There are more than 70 million people who use Minnan in the world.

Fulao dialect is the common dialect in Shanwei, and Fulao dialect is the largest dialect in Shanwei. It is mainly distributed on both sides of Guangshan Highway in the middle of Shanwei City and in the southern coastal areas, represented by Haicheng dialect and Donghai dialect respectively.
