The legend of April 8th

For thousands of years, the Miao compatriots have had a day off on the eighth day of April every year. People gather together, stay up all night, drink to their heart's content, and many young men and women gather in groups to "dance" - sing and dance. Make friends and choose your own partner. But more than 100 years ago, in the flower dancing ditch of Longtang River at the junction of Fenghuang and Songtao counties, during the "April 8th" flower dancing, the officials often saw the beautiful Miao girls on the flower dancing field. Sending troops to "beauty pageants and paying tribute" broke up so many good friends and ruined so many Miao girls.

At this time, a passionate young man named Wu Manyi from the Miao family saw that his sisters were being bullied in this way, and decided to resist and stop the atrocities of the government. This year's "April 8th" is here again, and the people from the government came aggressively. Wu Manyi led the young people to draw swords and dance sticks, and beat these lackeys to death. After the government learned about it, it sent batch after batch of officers and soldiers to suppress it. The rebel army led by Wu Manyi fought hard for more than a year. Due to being outnumbered, they finally failed. Wu Manyi was killed by the Huaxi River in Guiyang. In order to commemorate this young hero, on the eighth day of April every year, people will hold grand commemorative activities to remember this hero who died fighting for the freedom of Miao women.
