Cheng Zi’s family motto 2012-07-30 13:15:05| Category: Culture and Education|Font Size Subscribe

Father is kind and son is filial, brother and friend are respectful. Couple and friends letters. When you see an old man, you respect him; when you see a young man, you love him. Even though a virtuous person is younger than me, I will always respect him; even though an unworthy person is older than me, I will keep away from him. Don't talk about other people's shortcomings, don't be too proud of your own strengths. Those who are enemies should be punished with justice, and those who are wronged should be repaid directly. When people have small faults, they should be tolerated; when people have big faults, they should be punished. Don't do good deeds because they are small, and don't do evil deeds because they are small. There is no selfish hatred in the government, and there is no etiquette in running the family. Don't benefit yourself at the expense of others, don't be jealous of the talented and capable. Don't take ill-gotten wealth when you see it, but follow it when it comes to righteousness. Respect poetry and books, practice etiquette, train children and grandchildren, and be forgiving to slaves. Keep my place and obey my orders. If humans can do this, God will follow suit. This is the way to practice regularly, and it cannot be done for a day. Master Sicheng set up a family motto, and the descendants of future generations should take care of themselves three times on that day, abide by it and do not violate it, and God will bless them and follow them, and they will be prosperous forever. Qian's family motto is that one should not offend heaven and earth with one's inner thoughts, and one's words and deeds should be worthy of the sages. Don’t forget Zengzi’s Three Provinces. Cheng Zi’s four maxims should be admired. You must be careful when holding the bow. Don't be dishonest when it comes to getting rich. You must be decisive in dealing with things. The intention must not be lenient. The one who walks forward has a narrow path, and the one who looks behind has a wide horizon. Only when the dense places of flowers and willows can be opened can the means be revealed. Standing firm when the wind is raging and the rain is raging is the heel. If you can correct your mistakes, heaven and earth will not be angry; if you can be peaceful, ghosts and gods will have no power. If you read the classics and biographies, you will have a deep foundation; if you read the history, you will discuss the greatness. If you can write well, you will have many praises, and if you have good moral character, you will receive abundant blessings. If a family wants to create a beautiful family, it must establish good rules. The six buildings inside and outside are neat and tidy, and the order of superiority and inferiority is strict. Parents, uncles are filial and happy, sisters-in-law and brothers are harmonious and friendly. Although our ancestors are far away, we offer sacrifices to Yicheng. Although the descendants are stupid, they must read poems and books. When marrying a daughter-in-law, don’t worry about the dowry. When marrying a daughter, choose a good son-in-law, and do not seek wealth and honor. The wealthy family supports the clan, establishes a private school and public fields, provides food to relatives and friends during the year of hunger, and collects charity milk and grain. If you are diligent and thrifty, you will be prosperous (the same as "cooking" in ancient times), and if you are loyal and pass down the family, it will last a long time. Social letters make friends, HP neighbors. Be humble and lonely, respect the old and cherish the young. Disaster relief is urgent, troubleshooting and dispute resolution. Build bridges and roads to facilitate travel, and build river boats to facilitate people crossing. A private school for enlightenment was established, and a warehouse for storing grain was set up. All prejudices must be eradicated, and public welfare must be promoted. If you don't see benefit, you will make plans; if you don't see talent, you will be jealous. The villain must be kept at a distance and must not appear as an enemy. A gentleman should be a close relative, but he should not be tempted to go along with it. The state enforces the law like a mountain, protects the body like jade, loves the people like children, and removes beetles like enemies. Be strict to control the people, and be lenient to care for the people. If the officials are willing to pay attention, the people will receive ten benefits. If the emperor can endure a little hardship, the people will receive thousands of blessings. If there is benefit for one person, don't plan for it. If the benefit is for the whole world, you will definitely seek it. If the benefit is for one moment, you will seek it. If it is for the benefit of all ages, you will seek it even more. Great wisdom can rejuvenate a country, but it is just to gather the wisdom of the people; great foolishness can only harm the country for its own benefit. If you are smart and wise, keep it with foolishness. If you have merit, keep it with the world. If you keep it, keep it with humility. If you keep it with courage, keep it with timidity. If you are rich all over the world, keep it with humility. Above the temple, the priority is to nourish righteousness; within the sea, the priority is to nourish vitality. If this section is used, the country will be rich, if talents are promoted, the country will be strong; if education and talents are promoted, the country will be prosperous, and if we have good relations with our neighbors, the country will be safe.
