Survey Report on the Impact of the Internet on College Students
With the development and improvement of information technology, the Internet era has arrived. "Internet culture" has become a new cultural phenomenon on university campuses. Some experts and scholars have exaggeratedly said that "Internet culture" is the fourth milestone in the development of human culture after the emergence and formation of language and writing and the invention of movable type printing. At present, this emerging culture is rapidly gaining popularity in our country at an unprecedented speed. "Internet culture" is completely different from all previous cultures in terms of content and form, and has had a great impact on traditional culture. Its momentum is like the water of the Yellow River, which cannot but attract our attention. So, what impact and changes has the Internet brought to college students’ lives and studies? Recently, I conducted a questionnaire survey on "The Impact of the Internet on College Students" among four teaching classes in the Chinese Department of our college. 170 questionnaires were distributed and 150 were received, with an effective rate of about 88%.
The purpose of this questionnaire is to understand the positive and negative impacts of the Internet on college students, so as to attract the attention of schools, parents and college students themselves. Therefore, it is necessary to guide college students to correctly understand and use the Internet. And minimize the negative impact of the Internet on college students.
1. Positive impact
1. The impact of the Internet on the moral quality of college students
The positive impact of the Internet on the ideological and moral quality of college students is mainly reflected in the following: the Internet has become an important position for ideological and political education. College students visit these websites and participate in various activities carried out by the websites. It helps to enhance the awareness of patriotism and party love, and helps to strengthen the consciousness and status of moral subjects. For example, in the questionnaire, students responded to "The impact of the use of the Internet on the level of social morality": the use of the Internet will improve the level of social morality accounting for 35%, and the use of the Internet will decrease the level of social morality accounting for 10%. This result shows that the Internet has a certain improvement effect on the moral quality of college students, and it is the main effect, but it also has certain negative effects.
2. The impact of the Internet on the intellectual quality of college students
The positive impact of the Internet on the intellectual quality of college students is mainly reflected in: the openness and convenience of the Internet, the diversity and breadth of content, which provides a broad learning environment for college students space, greatly broadening the ways for college students to seek knowledge, helping them broaden their horizons and promote their studies; the Internet can provide college students with a free, relaxed, and stress-free learning environment, and help college students cultivate and develop their innovative abilities; the Internet is a There are many new and unknown things in the vast space, which can help develop the potential of college students. In the questionnaire "What are the main impacts of the Internet on you? (Multiple choice)" A. Broadened horizons and expanded knowledge accounted for 47%. B. Meeting a lot of friends and reducing the psychological pressure caused by studying or other aspects through communication with netizens accounted for 39%. C. Acquire rich educational resources on the Internet and improve academic performance by 14%. D. Spending too much time online leads to 12% decline in performance. E. Indulging in online entertainment and having no interest in learning accounted for 7%. In this survey, the proportion of the first three items is large enough to show that the Internet has a positive impact on the intellectual quality of college students.
3. The positive impact of the Internet on college students' social adaptability is mainly reflected in: the rapid development of network technology and the rapid transmission of information, as well as the new and equal interpersonal relationships of human-computer dialogue, which help to inspire and guide college students to cultivate and form learning, efficiency, and equality. , openness and other modern concepts; the Internet shortens the spatial distance between people and helps college students expand the scope of communication; the establishment of new interpersonal communication methods and social relationships online provides a way for college students to conduct social interactions in the real society. Buffer space; the Internet also provides a role training ground for the socialization of college students, helping to promote the socialization of college students.
2. Negative effects
Many things in the world have pros and cons, misfortunes and blessings, and the Internet is no exception. The Internet is like a big river, carrying pearls and silt as it rolls down. It not only spreads civilization but also dumps garbage. It both opens up people's wisdom and creates ignorance. In terms of its relationship with the development of college students, on the one hand, the Internet, as a new mass communication medium and communication method, greatly meets people's needs for sharing information resources and communicating beyond the limitations of time and space; on the other hand, On the one hand, the network itself has certain flaws. The network environment is often complex and lacks effective management and protection.
Because the psychological development of college students is not very mature enough, some college students lack the ability to filter and screen information such as "Internet culture", Internet environment, and Internet interactions. Therefore, in the current situation where school education focuses on academic performance, and some students cannot keep up with their studies and are under heavy employment pressure, the Internet can easily become a "bomb shelter" for some college students to avoid the burden and pressure, making some people addicted to it and unable to extricate themselves. Therefore, a small number of students are addicted to online entertainment and have no intention of studying, and some students' moral standards have declined due to the Internet. This is shown in the survey results and has been mentioned in the above example. They all agree with the view that "the three major hazards in the online world are: violent games, addictive chatting, and excessive pornography". The phenomenon of online dating occurs from time to time. In a survey of college students' opinions on online dating, only 49% were opposed to online dating, while 51% said they could try online dating. Some students also have experiences with online dating. These adverse factors of the Internet have affected the learning and physical and mental health of college students. Therefore, college students' Internet access must receive attention and timely guidance from relevant people.
3. Recommendations
The survey results show that college students should be given appropriate guidance when surfing the Internet. 39% of students believe that surfing the Internet is a general trend, 59% of students think that college students should be properly guided when surfing the Internet, 2% of students think that surfing the Internet should be strictly controlled, and 3% of students think that surfing the Internet is a waste of time. In the item "Where did you get your Internet knowledge?", only 8% of students obtained it from school, while 57.2% of students obtained it from classmates, and 35% obtained it from self-study. In terms of where they go online, 84% of them go online in Internet cafes, and only 4% of students go online in school.
These survey results show that the college has not paid attention to the problem of college students' Internet access, and has not provided the necessary conditions and guidance for students to access the Internet. Advanced network technology, abundant network education resources, lagging understanding of the network and lack of network environment constitute a sharp contradiction. Everything needs to be improved.
There are abundant educational resources on the Internet, but college students pay little attention to them. In the questionnaire, "Do you think educational resources on the Internet are relatively lacking, with too few types and low quality" accounted for 5%.
“It’s okay, some educational sites are good” accounted for 28.5%.
“Teaching information is rich, updated in a timely manner, and highly interactive” accounted for 14%.
“Don’t know much about it and seldom pay attention to this aspect” accounted for 50%.
The items that students are most interested in online materials are literature and art, emotional communication, chatting, social science, education, and games. "What do students do online?" In the multiple-choice question, students chose music the most, with entertainment accounting for 47%, followed by checking study materials accounting for 36%, playing games accounting for 24%, and chatting accounting for 16%. The remaining 10% is making friends online. Doing homework accounts for 9%, and sending and receiving emails accounts for 8%. When answering "the main purpose of surfing the Internet", 68.6% of the students answered that it was entertainment, and less than 10% answered that they studied.
The above survey results show that the purpose of college students surfing the Internet is mainly for entertainment and recreation. Of course, this is related to the Internet access of college students in their spare time, and also to the environment of surfing the Internet in Internet cafes. But the key is that the school has not created an atmosphere for students to use online learning, and teachers have not cultivated students' interest in using online learning.
In order to change this situation and introduce college students to online learning, the college must pay attention to this aspect of work, fully open the computer room and electronic reading room to students, and manage them effectively. Teachers should recommend healthy education and learning websites to students. College students use the Internet to browse large book websites, download learning materials from the Internet, write blogs, or express their opinions in forums. If college students can focus on these aspects for the purpose of surfing the Internet, then the Internet can truly play its role in communication, and college students' learning will be easy and enjoyable.
The Internet is like a boundless forest with rich treasures hidden inside. I hope college students can find the path to the treasures instead of getting stuck in the quagmire.
