Zhang Jiuling (678-740), a natural history scholar, named Zishou, was a native of Qujiang, Shaozhou (now west of Shaoguan, Guangdong). He was the prime minister and poet during the Kaiyuan period of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty in China. Zhang Jiuling was an important poet in the early Tang Dynasty. His five-character poems had a high status and great influence in the development of Tang poetry. Zhang Jiuling's representative works include 12 "Feelings of Encounter" and 5 "Miscellaneous Poems", such as Looking at the Moon and Huaiyuan, Slogans of Traveling in Huaiyang Pavilion, etc., which are all masterpieces that have been passed down throughout the ages.
