Recently, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA), the National Parks Board and 16 town councils across the country signed a memorandum of understanding with five bicycle sharing companies including Mobike to promote bicycle sharing in Singapore. Standardized exclusive bicycle services are provided on the ground floors of HDB flats and public areas such as parks.
Currently in Singapore, free bicycles must be parked in designated "grid" parking areas.
The company that owns the bicycle must put the bicycle that is not parked according to the regulations into the "grid" or remove it within half a day. Otherwise, the bicycle will be impounded by the Land Transport Bureau, and the company will also face a fine and must pay Administrative fees.
It is understood that in Singapore, the vast majority of people do not regard bicycles as a means of transportation at all because there are no roads for bicycle riding in Singapore. "Singaporeans learn to ride a bicycle, just like learning to roller skate or ski, it is a way of leisure and entertainment." Therefore, if bicycle sharing wants to occupy the market in Singapore, it may need to start a revolution in travel methods locally. We strive to change the way Singaporeans think and turn cycling into a normal part of their lives.
Currently, in Singapore, shared bicycles must be parked in planning "grids".
According to the memorandum, Singapore will designate more than 4,000 "grids" by the end of the year, which can accommodate about 20,000 exclusive bicycles.
In addition, Singapore will also install a bicycle identification device and a global positioning system on "Grid" in the future to facilitate the detection of free bicycles that are not parked as required.
