In 744 AD, in the third year of Tianbao, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, Li Bai and Du Fu met in Luoyang, the eastern capital. Later, people rated this as the most wonderful encounter in the history of China ancient literature. Therefore, Li Bai and Du Fu appreciated each other and forged a profound friendship.

When he was young, Du Fu worshipped Li Bai infinitely and regarded Li Bai as an idol. In his life, he wrote many poems dedicated to Li Bai, such as Song of Drinking Eight Immortals, To Li Bai, Living in Seclusion with Li Xun, Thinking of Li Bai in Spring, Having Li Bai in Winter, Dreaming of Li Bai and To Li Bai at the End of the Day.

Li Bai also cherishes this little fan because of his bosom friend. He also sent back poems such as Playing for Du Fu, Sending Du Fu to Dune Gate, and Sending Du Er Fu to East Shimen in Lujun.
