There are still a few months to study in Canada. I want to ask what to prepare before. If you have study abroad experience, please; If you don't, please.
This classmate, let me tell you something about my experience of studying in Canada, and you will understand how to adapt to your future life.

The first life preparation article

First of all, I want to say that you can buy almost anything you need as long as the place where you want to study in Canada is not a small town. In order to make your boarding easier, I suggest you take the following items to Canada.

A skirt.

(1) Just bring some spring and autumn clothes that you usually like to wear. Just come to Canada to buy it in winter. It's a little more expensive, but the quality is good. Unless it is particularly cold, cotton-padded clothes and trousers, sweaters and trousers are not needed, because it is more than 20 degrees indoors in winter. (2) Wear a pair of shoes, bring a pair of spare shoes and add a pair of slippers. Never bring cotton slippers, you don't need them at all. (3) For formal attire, it is necessary, but rarely. If you don't want to buy cheap goods from Wal-Mart or order from local stores, bring one from China. (4) underwear, socks, etc., with enough temporary change. (5) If you just come to Canada and don't live on campus at home, you can bring a thin quilt instead of a thick one. If you really need a thick one, you can buy it at Wal-Mart, which is not expensive. Get a pillow. Remember, all clothes, quilts and pillows should be packed in vacuum.

(6)PS: foreigners' bedding has no mattress. Remember to bring it if you need it, because you can't buy it.

Two kinds of school supplies

(1) Pencils and erasers are the only cheap stationery, others are expensive, the quality is average, and there are not many kinds in China. . . So, you should bring all the stationery you are used to, and remember to bring more. For example, pens, gel pens, markers, ballpoint pens, glue sticks, adhesive tapes, double-sided tapes, small staplers, spare pencil cases, knives, scissors, rulers and so on, as long as you can think of them. (2) Notebooks for taking notes in class must be remembered, because Canadian notebooks are very expensive, and the cover is old-fashioned, almost black, with a flower, a grass or a line of letters printed on it. (3) There is no need to play with toilet paper or anything. This is cheaper, usually one yuan for a big book.

Santai electronic equipment

(1) First of all, don't trust those global guarantees in China. When you really arrive in Canada, you will find that all the electronic products here are sold in shopping malls, and there are no specialty stores. If it really needs to be repaired, the global warranty is the best, but it should be mailed. It takes a month to go back and forth. I can't wait. So (2) computers can be brought from China, but you should be prepared to scrap them directly once the hardware breaks down, because as a student, it is impossible to wait for a month, and if you really get them to the local store for maintenance, you will find that changing a few parts is enough to buy new ones. Therefore, (3) I suggest that electronic equipment closely related to your daily life and study, such as computers, can't be completed in one day. I suggest buying it in Canada with a guarantee. The maintenance department of the mall can be repaired in a few days, which is really bad. (4) As for the price, to be honest, electronic products in Canada are similar to those in China after tax payment, and they are not cheap. (5) In terms of mobile phones, you can choose to come to Canada to sign a contract with a communication company, and at the same time enjoy giving away your mobile phone or buying it at a preferential price. You can also bring one from China, then apply for a card, and then insert the card.

Four drugs

This is very important, because Canadian hospitals are extremely inefficient and often need to make an appointment a few days in advance. It's an emergency. It's normal to wait for three or four hours. Besides, our language is not good and it is inconvenient to see a doctor. So the daily medicine is ready, and the minor illness can be cured by itself. Specific drug varieties, according to the actual situation of the body, plus Baidu, ha.

By the way, remember not to bring herbs and liquids, or you will be blacklisted by the customs if you are unlucky, and then you will be inspected every time you cross the border.

Five dollars

Most schools pay tuition within half a month or even a month after the start of school. So there is no need to bring too much cash when entering the country. Two or three thousand yuan is enough. Even checks are unnecessary. When you arrive in Canada, you can find a bank. CIBC, TD and BMO are all good. You can apply for a debit card, save enough for your daily use, save the extra cash and give your parents your account information. Parents can directly change the money into Canadian dollars in China and put it in the card, which will take about 2 to 3 days to arrive. You can use this account to pay tuition, rent and daily expenses.

PS: In order to prevent accidents, parents can set up a maternal and child credit card in China and secretly carry it with them. If there are special circumstances, such as cash stolen from luggage that has just arrived in Canada, or other things that need a lot of cash urgently, you can use this card for emergency. But the handling fee is said to be as high as 30% of the consumption. My classmates do this, but I think it is really unnecessary, because as long as you are bold and careful, you can prevent some bad things from happening.

Six sundries

(1) Big kitchen knives are also sold in Canada, but they are relatively rare, difficult to find and expensive, each reaching 1,000 to 2,000 yuan (at least I have seen them). Of course, the quality is really good, and many of them are made in Japan. Foreign knives are too small to use. Remember to put the knife in the checked baggage and carry it with you. Is it funny? But if you don't take it, you will definitely miss China kitchen knife in the future.

(2) Adapter If you bring a computer from China, you must remember this. Bull, very good.

(3) Glasses Glasses in Canada are very expensive and the quality is still very poor. Glasses usually take one to two weeks. Therefore, if you are nearsighted, take two or three pairs more to prevent glasses from being damaged or lost.

The second research article

You said your grades were poor. I hope you don't worry. You know, foreigners' grades, those high school graduates, get 300 points in the Chinese college entrance examination.

When you come to Canada, you must face two main difficulties, namely, language problems and future study in universities.

A language

(1) It's really hard to say exactly how much it costs, because I don't know what language course you took after you went to Canada. Specifically, refer to the charging standard of the language school you want to apply for. If it goes well, I can graduate from language school in one to one and a half years. Of course, it would be better if you took IELTS or TOEFL directly.

(2) How to really improve Chinese? There is only one way to improve, and that is to keep listening and speaking. Don't be afraid when you arrive in Canada, and you don't need to rely too much on senior China to solve the problem. For example, if you want to open an account in a bank or communication company, just ask yourself. Don't worry, most people in the service industry are serious, patient and kind. There are often some large classes in universities, that is, lecture halls, with many people. You can go in and listen to such a class without saying hello, even if you are not a student of this university at all. These courses are often very simple, and many of them are not very academic, such as movie appreciation, musical instruments and music appreciation. Illustrated and illustrated, it is interesting to go there.

(3) In short, talk more, dare to ask and listen, and take your time.

Second, study.

I know what you mean. You mean your high school is a mess, right? . . Then let me tell you the truth. First of all, I'm not slandering some schools.

Many students around me are from some private cooperative schools in China. The kind who came to Canada to study languages after graduating from high school and then went to college. These students' efforts in high school are far less than those of ordinary high school students, but what about after they come to Canadian universities? I have to say that some of them still eat, drink and have fun like high school, but many of them have done very well in college, and many of them are studying for graduate school and PhD. Besides, many of these people have poor grades as you said in high school.

So, don't be afraid. In high school in China, you may be overwhelmed by your grades, but after coming to Canada, you may feel much better, at least no one will force you to study.

So whether you can learn well after coming to Canada depends entirely on your personal efforts.

Let me give you some advice.

(1) Take a good look at math in junior high school and senior high school for the rest of the summer vacation. There is no need to look at difficult problems, just the simplest truth and examples in the textbook. I don't think I can, so I asked a tutor to help you with your homework. If you have a preference for your future major, such as biology, you should review the knowledge of junior high school and senior high school in advance.

(2) After taking classes in Canadian universities, several China students can be added to the course selection, and many hands make light work. Try not to miss class and listen carefully. If you don't understand after class, ask your classmates first, then go to TA and find a professor. Don't be afraid, just talk and practice your spoken English. . .

(3) Course selection should be done according to one's ability and step by step. I just went to college, especially freshman, and my language is not good. Avoid choosing too many courses related to writing, reading and group work. You can choose one or two courses each semester, but not too many, otherwise your grades will be poor and you will be under great pressure. After learning Chinese well, you can choose some courses including writing, reading and group work.

(4) Make good use of the online learning system provided by the school. For example, my school is a BLS system. There are course descriptions, assignments and exams, as well as grading standards and arrangements in the system. At the same time, teachers will upload useful courseware and release some news about the course, such as changing classrooms or temporarily suspending classes.

(5) Make good use of Chinese resources. Foreign classes and textbooks are all in English. But after all, our cultural backgrounds and ways of thinking are different. Many times, the amount of information in English is far less than that in Chinese for the same teaching content. For example, the textbooks used in some courses are actually available in Chinese in China, and many of them can download electronic resources from the Internet. Then listen to English in class and find the Chinese version after class. Of course, not all Chinese textbooks are good. Sometimes, English textbooks are simpler and easier to understand.

(6) Don't be lazy and do your homework on time. In foreign teaching, homework accounts for a large part, accounting for about 40% to 60% of the total score. Both students and teachers take it seriously. Moreover, the progress of homework is often the progress of teaching. If you don't miss classes, you will definitely get good grades by listening to lectures and doing your homework carefully.

(7) Many foreign teachers also come from other countries in the world, and some of them have strong accents, which are difficult to understand. So try not to choose a teacher with a strong accent when choosing a course, otherwise it will be really tangled. . . But the foreign teachers are very kind and good. By the way, remember to train some teachers who have a good relationship with you, and I will write you a letter of recommendation later. Cultivating the relationship between teachers and students is also very simple: go to teachers' office hours more, choose more courses for teachers, and do well in exams.

PS: I won't talk about the choice of major. After all, it depends on personal preference. Of course, we should also do what we can, and we should not blindly follow suit. For example, many foreign students from China study engineering, but it is very difficult. A year later, they couldn't get on, so they had to switch to a relatively relaxed major such as business or mathematics. It wastes time, energy and money.

The third article interpersonal communication

Only three, remember?

(1) Foreigners are also human beings. Although they look very different from China people on the surface, the key principles of dealing with people are unchanged. So try to understand with your heart. It is not easy to express this in words. But don't be afraid, just communicate with people boldly.

(2) Not every foreigner has a high quality in school. In the city, you will find that people often say thank you, you're welcome, and so on, and often smile at each other, so you think there must be fewer bad people. However, you should be careful. For example, don't go out alone in the middle of the night, lock the door at home, and be sure to take valuables with you in the school library, or you will find the macbook missing when you come back to the bathroom. . . This kind of thing happens much better in my school, which is among the best in Canada.

(3) China people must be careful when making friends. After all, I came to Canada to study. Although entertainment is essential, don't go clubbing, picking up girls and eating and drinking with some friends all day. Such friends are not good friends. True friends promote and urge each other.

give up

This proposal was put forward by AKR in flying bear, which is not necessarily suitable for Vancouver, Toronto and other Chinese-populated cities, nor for remote towns and cities or regions with extremely harsh natural conditions. The above is not for personal actual situation, and is for reference only. I wish you all the best ~ ~ Come on ~ ~ I just graduated ~ ~ ~
