Qitai County belongs to Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture. Qitai County is located in the northeast of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, bordering Rem Kazak Autonomous County in the east, Turpan City in the south, Jimsar County in the west, Fuyun County and Qinghe in the north, and Mongolia in the northeast. The terrain is high in the north and south, low in the middle and saddle-shaped. It belongs to the continental arid and semi-arid climate in the middle temperate zone.
