French architecture
Victoria Catholic Church (also known as Xiashan Catholic Church) introduced western architecture during the French rule in Zhanjiang, and a number of modern buildings with European characteristics appeared in Xiashan. Although it was built by Zhanjiang people, it was designed by the French. Therefore, the building was completely westernized, reflecting the prevailing architectural style in France at that time. These French architectural relics have become precious "fossils" to understand Zhanjiang's history. The main architectural relics in French style include the former site of the French Embassy in Guangzhou Bay, the former site of the French Police Department in Guangzhou Bay, the Victoria Catholic Church, also known as the Xiashan Catholic Church, the former site of the Credit Suisse Bank in the East, and the Xiashan Gospel Church.
