7. How to get to Luoquan Peninsula

There is no Erhai Lake in Hangzhou.

Erhai Lake is located in the north of Dali, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It was named Erhai Lake because it looked like a human ear. Although it is called a sea, it is actually a lake. It is said that because the Bai people have never seen the sea, they called it Erhai to express their yearning for the sea.

The Erhai Lake belongs to the Lancang River water system. The water from the lake flows out of Xi'an'er River, merges with Yangjiang River, and flows into Lancang River. There are scenic spots such as Little Putuo, Nanzhao Customs Island, Luoquan Peninsula, Shuanglang and so on. Erhai Moon is one of the four major scenic spots in Dali.

8. Pink Beach in Luoquan Peninsula Tourist Area

When traveling now, of course it is Yunnan where it is like spring all year round. The current average temperature in Yunnan is about 20 degrees. After playing for a few days, I spent more than 1,000 per day and had a lot of fun. Next, let’s recommend to me a few scenic spots in Yunnan that I have been to:

The area around Erhai Lake is 130 kilometers away.

Erhai Lake looks like an ear, hence the name, but it is a lake, not a sea, and is the second largest freshwater lake in Yunnan Province. There is no reason to go to Erhai Lake, but it has magnetism that you don’t have. Since you are here, I don’t want to go.

There are many scenic spots around Erhai Lake, but I always feel that the most beautiful scenery is on the road, and I feel at a loss as soon as the car stops. Erhai Lake is roughly divided into two roads, one is Huanhai West Road and the other is Huanhai East Road, which are almost close to Erhai Lake.

A boat traveling on the Erhai Sea is really like a small leaf, which can make a big wave. But when the island is high, it seems to have some area, occupying part of Erhai Lake.

Dali Ancient City or Dali City, because I can’t tell the clear boundaries between them. In fact, I looked at the mountains on the other side. There are just many buildings, houses, and homes of Dali people. There are as many houses as Dali people have, and the houses are arranged in a honeycomb shape at the foot of Cangshan Mountain.

How long does Cangshan Mountain stretch? The villages and villages in Dali constitute a cultural landscape passage.

After seeing enough water in Erhai Lake, the vehicle continued to the next stop, Luoquan Peninsula.

Luoquan Peninsula is also surrounded by water on three sides and faces the ancient city of Dali across the sea. It is said to be an excellent location to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Cangshan Lake and Erhai Lake, but the scenic spot is relatively weak. Apart from these two towers, it is almost impossible to find other buildings. If I say the most unforgettable thing about this trip is that I took the elevator to Luoquan Tower. Although the elevator charges an additional 10 yuan, since I am here, how can I not go up? From the tower, you can see the scenery of the peninsula surrounded by water on three sides.

Photography by Luo Quan/Author: Hu

The overlooking of the entire Erhai Lake from the top of Luo Quan Tower is spectacular enough. I even feel that after seeing the Erhai Lake here, there is no need to travel on the sea after it. But how can it be a complete circle without continuing?

Although it was the first time to meet Little Putuo, they always felt very familiar. It is the one that has been taken abroad more frequently among the photos of Erhai Lake scenery. Erhai Xiaoputuo is a small and exquisite pavilion-style two-story building. The first floor is Buddha and Bodhisattva, and the second floor is Guanyin Bodhisattva. It is said that the best time for locals to appreciate the fog in Putuo is in the morning. There are fog, fairy wind and beautiful scenery everywhere in Little Putuo!

Shuanglang Ancient Town is probably the closest ancient town to Erhai Lake. It aspires to build all its buildings, new hotels, bars and restaurants directly within the Erhai Lake so tourists can eat, drink and have fun on or within the Erhai Lake. I don’t think this experience was that great. It's a little too late. I was walking on the stone road in Shuanglang Ancient Town by Erhai Lake. I absolutely hate cobblestone roads. I can walk in the mountains all day, but in an hour I will abandon the stone road

Rows of old houses with low eaves, this is my most intuitive feeling about double corridors. This quiet fishing village on the east coast of Erhai Lake may be far away from the city now, but its quiet appearance thousands of years ago can be ignored. There are aborigines working in national costumes on the streets, more shops, noisy cover songs filling the ears, and native wandering singers. Where are you?

Congche We didn’t get off the bus when we came out of Shuanglang Ancient Town until we walked the entire east bank. Sure enough, there is no scenery after Cheshuanglang Ancient Town. Walk the entire east coast to the west coast of Erhai Lake. Zhoucheng, Western Zhou Ancient Town, Haishe Park, Butterfly Spring, and Chongsheng Temple make the scenery of the West Bank particularly eye-catching.

There are very few vehicles on the way back to the ancient city, and there are large areas of farmland on the roadside. In the afternoon, the sun comes out from the west and shines through the clouds. It's so beautiful! I want to shout out loud! I like the Jesus light in Yunnan, the Tyndall effect is always common here.

Dali, Zhoucheng, is a place where almost every household makes tie-dye.

People say that good steel is spent on the blade. Regarding the use of time, we also need to spend time on good things. This tie-dye experience in Dali made me truly appreciate the happiness of wasting time on beautiful things.

Dyeing Photography/Author: Hu

Dyeing Photography/Author: Hu

Zhou is the largest settlement of the Bai people, so the tie-dye here is also called Bai tie-dye dye. The finished products of Bai tie-dye are mostly blue and white, which are fresh and elegant, like an innocent picture, like gongbi. However, there are not many colors, but they can express a calm and tolerant mentality and the pursuit of the best life ideal. This is why many people like tie dye.

When you walk into Zhoucheng, you can see tie-dyed fabrics everywhere, demonstrating the profound cultural heritage. When you step into the yard, the first thing you see is a large indigo dyeing vat, with blue tie-dyed fabric fluttering in the wind.

Dyeing Photography/Author: Hu

The beauty of dyeing comes from craftsmen and is also a gift from the earth.

The soaked isatis root undergoes multiple transformations day after day and becomes a dye, which is the color source of tie-dying. From nature, but in exchange for the most dreamy blue.

Dyeing Photography/Author: Hu

After the visit, I watched my uncle’s making process and decided to make a tie-dye work. After consultation, the entire process takes at least two hours. Obviously, it's a little long, but I think it's all here. It was a bit of a shame if I just watched it go, so I asked again if there was anything faster. Can I dye a small piece of fabric? Uncle Bai gave me a scarf with the pattern of Cangshan Mountain in Dali and guided me in coloring it. After rinsing, my work is left to dry in the yard.

I was very happy and excited when I saw that I could dye a work, so I invited Aunt Bai, the owner of this dyeing shop, to take a photo with me in front of this tie-dye work. Everyone said that my cloth dyeing was good and that I worked vigorously like a man. In fact, Cangshan Mountain is soft, so I might have dyed it like the snowy mountains in western Sichuan!

The hospitable Bai people gave me my dyed works. Out of politeness, they bought a few small tie-dye derivatives from their aunt's house and we shopped at the market. I kept the miscellaneous bags to make my own lens tubes. I plan to give away other small items such as teacups, wallets, and handkerchiefs. I don’t know if it’s a lottery draw on Weibo or something.

As for my tie-dye works, they are now being framed.

I went to Xizhou with great interest just to eat.

I didn’t even eat breakfast at the inn, so I took a car to Xizhou Ancient Town under the arrangement of the housekeeper.

Photography/writing of Xizhou Ancient Town: Hu

I have no concept of Xizhou Ancient Town. Every trip is a casual trip. Maybe it’s a legend about my destination, a snack, or a small attraction that’s not interesting to others. As soon as I heard it, I thought it was good, and I would appear directly at the place, waving my hands without any strategy. A few years ago, I didn't even know what a walkthrough meant, but then it dawned on me! Just find a teacher, Wukong. Don’t bother with flowers and plants. This time I went to Xizhou with great interest, just to eat!

Photos of ancient buildings in the ancient town of the Western Zhou Dynasty/Hu

My Dali friend who followed me into the city pointed to a street in front of me and said that this is the most prosperous street in Xizhou. I raised my camera in surprise and faced the deserted street, so quiet! It's so quiet! When I first saw Xizhou, I fell in love with the temperament of Xizhou Ancient Town. Some ancient towns have the simplicity they deserve, while others have experienced silence over the years, and that sense of solidity is very contagious.

Walk out of the streets and alleys and come to the morning market. There are many people here, and the stalls are busy buying and selling. Shopping people continue to the next shop, twirling their hands with their purchases, feeling the breath of life but not seeming to be noisy. We walked through the crowd looking for breakfast today.

Wooden Archway Photography/Writing: Hu

Of course I don’t dare to try hairy tofu. Rumor has it that you drink the marshmallow as soon as it hits your mouth. Xizhou Baba is for one person to eat, but only Xizhou Baba will be too dry. This is not the attitude of eating snacks, so I quickly found some thin bean noodles to go with it. The outer skin of Zhou Baba is very tender, and it comes in two flavors: sweet and salty, salty stuffed with meat, and sweet rose sugar. Since I had the salty version, I recommend you try the sweet version first. The stall owner will cut it into pieces for you after you buy it, making it very convenient to eat. Thin bean pink color, light yellow color, pleasant fragrance. Put it in a bowl and sprinkle with some chopped green onion, pepper noodles, chili noodles, etc. The light yellow of the thin bean flour, the green of the chopped green onion, and the bright red of the chili noodles make you want to eat them just looking at them. Take a sip and smack your lips. It’s so cool! With this rare combination, I ate to my heart's content. Breakfast was so simple, simple but very happy.

After saying goodbye to the stall owner, I got into the alley again. I always feel that all the fancy shops are open for tourists and tour groups, so I still like to walk alone in the alleys, which is where the original charm of Xizhou is shown. After deviating from the main street and walking into an alley, I found myself opening a Pandora Buddha's box.

Such superb carving skills were displayed in the old house, and the people living here even started eating breakfast.

Out of the yard, my friend asked me to take me to see another ancient building , crossing a field. I applauded and started. We came to the field covered with golden rice. Under the sunlight, the rice fields shine brightly, and the breeze blows. The fields became undulating waves, and all the wind-blown rice bowed its head to receive the sacred bath. The ancient building is on the edge of the rice field. It is a building with orange walls and blue tiles.

I tried my best to visit every house I met on the road, and the time unceremoniously arrived in the morning. Light and shadow outline the simple and heavy appearance of these old houses. In a yard with the word "Wood Sculpture" written on it, we met a handsome guy who carved wood. With his permission, we began to visit their works. Without having an in-depth understanding of the art of wood carving, I won’t say much about the quality of the works in front of me, but I think this handsome guy is very serious when making things, and he looks like a craftsman at a young age.

This building is a Bai ethnic group The people's masterpiece residential architecture. It is listed as a national cultural relic protection unit and is named Xi'an Yuanlin. Its original owner was Yang Pinxiang, and it was later taken over by a Linden couple from the United States. It was also due to the painstaking management of the government that the Yang Family Courtyard was demolished into an inn. Most of the people living there are foreigners, and many internationally renowned artists and experts in various fields like to stay here for a few nights. When I met Lyndon, I was surprised for once! Lyndon Americans speak Chinese even better than many Chinese people. He heard that I was here to collect news and expressed his welcome. At that time, Linden was being interviewed by CCTV, so my friend took me to Yuan Lin’s cafe in Xi’an to bask in the sun, where I could see a whole rice field.

There are many snacks in Xizhou. After drinking my coffee, I saw it was eleven o'clock on the clock. After expressing my desire to find another snack for my friends, I said goodbye to Lin Deng and his Xi'an Yuan Lin. Once again, when we came to the street where we entered the city in the morning, I repeatedly checked with my friends whether we were going the wrong way. There were already many shops and crowded stalls in front of us. The contrast between the blooming flowers and the quietness of the morning was great. Sure enough, Xizhou people like to sleep in.

Photography/writing of Xisifang Street: Hu

Sifang Street, the street name of many ancient cities in Yunnan, is also the most prosperous street in Xizhou Ancient Town. On this street, we discovered another snack from the ancient town of Western Zhou Dynasty - pea powder. At first glance, there is no difference between the bean flour on the outside and the thin bean flour. it it's just dry and thin. After tasting the pea flour carefully, the taste is stronger and the texture is good. After being poured with various seasonings, it is sour, sweet, spicy, fragrant and salty, very delicious.

Photos of pea flour/written by Hu Cai

This small shop that sells pea flour is called Amaying Pea Flour. The operator is an old woman, 78 years old. Grandma treats all customers equally, whether they are adults or children, locals or out-of-towners, and does not ignore the off-season and peak seasons. Five yuan per bowl. It’s not that tourists want more, it’s that locals want less. While we were eating, many foreign friends came to buy some. Grandma didn't say anything, she just stretched out her hands to indicate the price. These foreign friends are not stupid, and everyone’s transactions went smoothly.

Photography/writing of a small town by Erhai Lake: Hu

Grandma’s back is hunched, but every grain of pea flour is seasoned by her. Maybe it’s just finding the confidence to do something. I saw a lot of beautiful blue cloth on the square street outside the city and knew it was tie-dye. After leaving the ancient town, the driver took us to Haishu Park on the edge of Xizhou Ancient Town, or in other words, we walked out of Xizhou Ancient Town on the edge of Erhai Lake.

4 Go to Haishe Park and look at the dead trees in a daze. Compared to Dali, time is for squandering.

The reason why Haitong Park is called Haitong is because it is shaped like a tongue extending into Erhai Lake, and Xizhou is an ancient town near Erhai Lake, so the two attractions are about 100 meters away from each other on the Erhai Ring Road. The closest one is only two or three miles away.

Tongue direction The direction of Erhai Lake extends from wide to narrow, creating a landscape of Haishe Park surrounded by the sea on three sides. In Haishu Park, you can walk on the stone steps near Erhai Lake. Sometimes the stone steps are flooded. In summer, you can step on it gently with bare feet. There are shallow wetlands on both sides with many trees growing there. The dead trees still stand among them, still exposed to wind and rain day and night, plump and gradually concave into different shapes.

Enter In Haishu Park, you can choose to take a carriage or walk. The horse-drawn carriage can bring people materials for traveling and making friends, and it only takes 700 meters to walk. I saw many horses that were exhausted and their legs were shaking. They wanted to come down to rest, but they were covered by carriages. I can’t bear to walk in there.

Tongue The park area is small. It's best to spend an hour or most of the day inside, depending on the visitor's schedule. If you can find a place to rest, it's also a good idea to spend the afternoon in the sun. After all, Dali's time is wasted.

Dali people can enjoy the scenery of Erhai Lake every day, which we can do at a fast pace Don't have extravagant expectations in your life. I don't like taking pictures on such a beautiful Erhai Lake, so I asked my friend to take a photo of me to show that I am here. In fashionable terms, it’s called checking in, checking in to Haitang Park.

Walk out Haishu Park, I noticed two big trees on the roadside. When I came out, I happened to see them in my field of vision. It is said that the two trees have actually grown so thick that they have become one tree. This tree is a lovers tree in Dali. Many people come here to take photos and witness their love. This famous lover’s tree in Dali was photographed as a bachelor’s tree! Because I'm still a human being, I'll try to make it a lover's tree next time!

When you travel to Yunnan, you can get a good experience no matter how many days you spend there. If you don't believe me, give it a try.
